Full job description

Are you looking to develop or change your career? We are hiring. Build your new career with us.

We are a friendly and busy GP practice located in Poundbury and are looking for a welcoming and enthusiastic GP Receptionist to join our team to work 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining our high standard of patient care and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the surgery.

This is a varied and patient-facing role that requires excellent communication, organisation, and the ability to work in a busy environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing patient appointments and appointment queries.
  • Processing prescription requests.
  • Responding to test result enquiries in line with practice procedures.
  • Handling incoming telephone calls, emails, and post.
  • Signposting patients to the most appropriate services.
  • Liaising with clinicians, the wider practice team, and external organisations including Care Homes.
  • Maintaining and updating patient records accurately.
  • Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the reception area.
  • Working both independently and as part of a team.

Working Hours

This role is based on site at the surgery. Working hours will be scheduled across our opening hours of 08:00 – 18:30, with occasional additional cover required for sickness and annual leave.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Basic IT and computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or GP practice setting.
  • Reception or customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of SystmOne.
