Harley Street Specialist Hospital (London) Ltd is an 11,100 square foot, six floor hospital building located in the heart of the Harley Street medical district. We boast the following:

  • A full operating suite, recovery bay and six recovery pods on the lower ground floor
  • A full operating suite, recovery bay with three beds and a private room on the ground floor
  • A minor ops suite (suitable for GA’s), pharmacy and imaging suite on the first floor
  • Nine beautiful, newly refurbished consulting rooms throughout the hospital.

We offer day surgery across a range of specialties, predominantly orthopaedic, plastic, cosmetic and others.

We have a team of specialist consultants on hand to provide expert care for patients seeking treatment in: orthopaedics (knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, spine); oral maxillofacial; gynaecology; ophthalmology; gastroenterology and urology.

HSSH has a strict inclusion and exclusion policy, and we try to treat ASA1/2 patients only.

We are recruiting for two Healthcare Assistants (HCA) to join our team.

The successful candidates will play a key role within the multi-disciplinary team, working and leading with other team members to define and implement developments within the service.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Monitoring & Observation

  • Regularly perform and record physiological measurements, including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and respiratory rate
  • Observe patients for signs of post-surgical complications, adverse reactions, or clinical deterioration
  • Report any abnormalities, pain levels, or concerns (such as signs of infection or bleeding) to a member of the clinical team

2. Post-Operative Patient Care

  • Assist patients with essential hygiene needs, including washing, dressing, feeding, and hydration
  • Provide support with toileting and incontinence care as required
  • Support the healthcare team in implementing comfort measures, such as patient repositioning and the application of cold compresses

3. Mobility & Rehabilitation

  • Safely assist patients in getting out of bed and changing positions to prevent pressure ulcers and promote circulation
  • Assist patients with rehabilitation exercises and mobility plans as directed by the physiotherapy or nursing staff
  • Ensure patients are supported and encouraged to move safely to prevent post-operative complications like DVT (blood clots)

4. Emotional Support & Patient Advocacy

  • Provide reassurance and emotional comfort to patients who may feel anxious or confused during their recovery
  • Help patients understand and follow their post-operative instructions and prescribed recovery plans

5. Environment & Infection Control

  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, equipment, and high-touch surfaces to maintain a sterile recovery environment
  • Change bed linens and dispose of clinical waste or soiled materials in strict accordance with infection control protocols
  • Ensure the recovery area remains organised, free of contaminants, and safe for both patients and staff

6. Supply Chain & Documentation

  • Regularly restock clinical supplies (e.g., gloves, towels, toiletries) and order consumables to ensure the ward remains fully equipped
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legible documentation of all patient observations and vital signs in the clinical records

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of working within the Private Healthcare industry desirable
  • Experience of having worked in a similar role
  • Minimum 2 years’ experiencd
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Attained GCSE Maths and English (Grades A – C)
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office and any other relevant packages
  • Applicants must demonstrate a caring and compassionate manner

  • Proactive with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent requests
  • Ability to work independently using your own initiative

  • To keep up to date with current procedures and hospital agreements
  • Undertake all training and development courses deemed appropriate for the role as specified by HSSH policy and procedure within agreed timeline
