About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Secondary Editorial and Delivery team in the Education UK Division, creating high-quality, market-leading resources for secondary school students.
The main responsibility of the Development Editor role is to take print and digital projects, for Science, through the production process, working with authors and other editors, and design and digital teams, to ensure that high-quality, market-appropriate products publish on time and within budget.
Key responsibilities in this role will include:
Applying editorial skills, judgement, and best practice to ensure that products are accurate, appropriate, accessible and published to specifications.
Progressing resources through the production process, from manuscript to finished product (both print and digital resources).
Proactive problem-solving to ensure that resources come out to schedule and within budget.
Building and fostering good working relationships with colleagues, freelancers, authors and suppliers.
Adapting quickly to evolving editorial processes and workflows, including XML-based publishing and collaboration with external suppliers.
Demonstrate and apply knowledge of secondary schools market, competitors and portfolio strategy to contribute to success of products.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:Essential:
Experience in educational publishing
Background in, or familiarity with, a scientific discipline, with the ability to understand and work effectively with scientific subject matter
Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritise and communicate effectively
Creativity, enthusiasm and passion for science education in schools
Attention to detail and drive for high standards
High level of literacy, numeracy and data literacy
Experience in managing complex multi-component print and digital projects to budget and schedule
Ability to liaise with and manage a range of authors, suppliers and freelancers
A willingness to learn new skills and processes
Desirable:
Experience in project management, ideally in a similar field
Proficiency in producing digital content with good understanding of the user experience considerations necessary for digital formats
