Full job description

BestFostering is seeking compassionate, thoughtful and committed individuals to join our Independent Fostering Panel as Panel Members.

This is a rewarding opportunity to play an important role in improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people by helping ensure they are matched with safe, nurturing and stable foster homes.

We are looking to build a diverse and experienced panel made up of people from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds. About the Role

As a Panel Member, you will contribute to independent, balanced and child-focused recommendations regarding:

  • The approval of foster carers
  • Foster carer reviews
  • Connected person / kinship foster carer assessments
  • Changes in approval terms
  • Standards of care and safeguarding matters

You will carefully consider written reports, attend panel meetings (primarily online), listen respectfully to discussions, and contribute your views to help ensure recommendations are fair, safe and centred around the needs of children.

We Are Looking For People Who:

  • Care deeply about improving outcomes for children and young people
  • Have good listening, communication and analytical skills
  • Can consider information objectively and sensitively
  • Are able to work respectfully as part of a professional panel
  • Are confident using IT systems and reading electronic documents
  • Can maintain confidentiality and professional integrity

Experience may have been gained professionally, personally or through lived experience.

Panel Meetings

Panel meetings are expected to take place monthly, primarily online, with occasional in-person training or development sessions.

Panel Members will receive:

  • Induction and ongoing training
  • Annual review and support
  • Professional panel fees
  • Opportunities to contribute to the development of a new, child-centred fostering agency

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

At Best Fostering, we believe children benefit from carers and professionals who reflect the diversity of the communities they come from.

We warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, cultures, identities and experiences, including those with lived experience of the care system.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every voice is valued.

Safeguarding

Best Fostering is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Appointments will be subject to:

  • Enhanced DBS checks
  • Satisfactory references
  • Suitability checks in line with fostering regulations
