Full job description

Albrighton Medical Practice is a friendly, supportive and forward thinking GP practice dedicated to providing high-quality care to our community. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Medical Secretary to join our administrative team.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive and efficient secretarial and administrative support to our team of GPs and other healthcare professionals. You will be a vital link between patients, doctors, and external agencies, ensuring the smooth running of our practice's administrative functions.

Key responsibilities

· Provide a high-quality audio and copy typing service for clinical and non-clinical correspondence, including referrals, reports, and letters.

· Manage all referrals via the electronic referral system (eRS) and monitor waiting lists to ensure timely processing.

· Handle and action incoming correspondence, distributing it to the appropriate clinicians.

· Process requests for medical reports from insurance companies, solicitors, and other external bodies, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with GDPR.

· Manage incoming telephone calls from patients, consultants, and other external agencies in a polite and efficient manner.

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records on our clinical systems (EMIS)

· Manage and prioritize daily tasks and provide cover for other team members during leave and sickness.

· Adhere to all practice policies and procedures, including those relating to confidentiality, data protection, and health and safety.

· Provide support to and where needed work with the any team, including the reception and admin teams to cover gaps in rotas or staffing in times of need to ensure a smooth running of the practice.

We are looking for a candidate with:

· Prior experience as a medical secretary, ideally within a primary care or NHS setting.

· Excellent audio and copy typing skills.

· A strong understanding of medical terminology.

· Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

· The ability to work efficiently under pressure and prioritise your workload effectively.

· Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and a sensitive, confidential approach.

· Proficiency in IT and experience with NHS clinical systems ( EMIS Web).

· A flexible, proactive, and reliable approach to work
