Full job description

If you’re able to work autonomously in a residential setting, confident in making acute clinical decisions and have a desire to make a positive impact, then you’re the nurse we’re looking for.

At National Star, we realise the aspirations of young adults living with complex physical and learning disabilities. Right now, we’re looking for a registered nurse to work at our Ullenwood campus GL53 9QU on a bank basis. You will need to have held your nursing qualification for a minimum of 12months.

Are you ready for a change in your career or healthcare environment? If so, your skills and knowledge would be invaluable for keeping our residents and students healthy and safe. Thanks to your passion for their wellbeing and undeniable drive to deliver high-quality care, they’ll be empowered to experience a world without limits.

The students at National Star are medically complex and have a range of disabilities, including cerebral palsy, ASD, Spina Bifida, global developmental delay, acquired brain injury and hearing or visual impairment. As their nurse, you’ll share your expertise with the team because together, we make sure each person gets the personalised health care they need to manage pain or symptoms of their conditions so they can live the life they want. For you and us, it’s all about promoting independence and enabling them to study, socialise, enjoy their passions, hobbies and day-to-day activities.

You’ll:

* Deliver day-to-day nursing

* Be comfortable working alone as an autonomous clinician (alongside skilled care staff) or as part of a small nurse team

* Advise and guide our teams on health-related matters

* Develop comprehensive health plans

* Help the young people manage their medication with their care and support workers

* Provide emergency nursing care as required

* Undertake medical procedures and protocols

* Help students and residents develop the skills and knowledge they need to manage their wellbeing

* Liaise with GPs, pharmacies and consultants

* Keep records and health-related documentation up-to-date.

If you’re able to work autonomously in a residential setting, confident in making acute clinical decisions and have a desire to make a positive impact, then you’re the nurse we’re looking for. If you have recent and ongoing competency in respiratory care and management of tracheostomy/laryngectomy, that will benefit us. You don’t necessarily need experience working with people with disabilities as we are happy to teach you all you’ll need to know. What we can’t teach, however, is compassion, which is vital for fitting in with our team and way of working.

In return for your guidance and medical expertise, you’ll enjoy a minimum of 25 days paid holiday, plus eight statutory public holidays pro-rata. We support revalidation, and you’ll gain experience working for an outstanding provider with CQC.

All our nurses work shift patterns that can start from 7:30am for early shifts and can include 10pm finish on late shifts, working every other weekend.

Join National Star as a nurse, and your care will help create experiences without limits. From the first attempt of administering their own medication to the triumphant achievement of speaking for the first time after an acquired brain injury, the needs of the young people we support are unique. Through the highs and the lows, any moments of pain and all the celebrations, you’ll have supported and enabled their care to enhance the events they love and the social calendar they choose. It’s their life. You’ll make sure they’re living it healthily.
