Pay: £13.62 per hour

We are looking for an experienced Wet Spray Painter to join our busy manufacturing team at our factory on Saltmeadows Road, Gateshead.

HJC Specialist Coatings is part of the JS Group, providing professional wet spray and specialist finishing services alongside our established signage and fabrication operations.

This is a hands-on factory-based position working within our paint and finishing department. We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in producing a high-quality finish and can work reliably both independently and as part of a wider production team.

The Role

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Preparing aluminium, steel, stainless steel, acrylic and other materials ready for painting
  • Sanding, cleaning, masking and preparing surfaces to achieve a professional finish
  • Setting up and operating wet spray equipment
  • Applying primers, base coats and top coats
  • Mixing paints and colours to achieve the required colour, finish and consistency
  • Spraying fabricated signage, aluminium panels, sign trays, letters and other components
  • Applying lacquer finishes to materials including copper and brass where required
  • Inspecting completed work and maintaining high quality standards
  • Cleaning and maintaining spray guns, equipment and the paint shop working area
  • Following COSHH, PPE and all company health & safety procedures
  • Working closely with our fabrication and production teams to ensure jobs are completed correctly and on time

What We're Looking For

Previous wet spray painting experience is essential.

Experience within signage, automotive, commercial spraying, metal fabrication or a similar manufacturing environment would be particularly useful.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a good eye for detail and takes pride in their work
  • Understands the importance of surface preparation
  • Can consistently achieve a high-quality sprayed finish
  • Is comfortable working with different paints, primers and substrates
  • Can follow job specifications and colour requirements accurately
  • Is reliable, punctual and organised
  • Can work independently without constant supervision
  • Works well as part of a production team
  • Takes responsibility for the quality of their own work
  • Understands the importance of PPE and safe working practices
