What if you could shape a career as unique as you?
At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
A little more about your role…
We’re growing our Environmental Project Management team and excited to welcome several Project Managers into our Project, Programme Management and PMO community.
In this role, you’ll play an important part in delivering multi-disciplinary environmental projects, working closely with Senior Project Managers and Technical Leads to keep projects safe, on track and within budget. You’ll gain exposure to a varied and meaningful portfolio across the UK, supporting both public and private sector clients.
Our team spans PMO, Project Controls, Project Management and Project Director roles, working across every stage of the project lifecycle. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of smaller projects, while also supporting on larger programmes and portfolios, giving you the breadth and experience to grow your career.
Beyond project delivery, there’s scope to mentor junior colleagues, contribute to team development, and shape the future of our Environmental Project Management capability.
This is a great opportunity to build your core project management and PMO skills, develop confidence, and progress towards a Senior Environmental Project Manager role over time. You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative team that genuinely invests in your development and gives you the space to learn, grow and succeed.
Our work is varied, impactful and often nationally significant. You could be contributing to major programmes such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, Heathrow Expansion, East–West Rail or Sizewell C, alongside a wide range of projects that shape how people live, work and travel.
And if you enjoy bringing structure to complexity, and don’t mind the occasional spreadsheet, you’ll feel right at home here
Your New Role What’s Involved?
- Support the development of project proposals, helping to define requirements, scope, resourcing, programme and budget for successful delivery.
- Create and maintain clear, well-structured project documentation such as project plans, cost forecasts, risk registers and schedules taking ownership on smaller projects and supporting Senior Project Managers on larger, more complex work.
- Keep projects on track by actively monitoring progress and helping to drive delivery against agreed timelines.
- Manage project costs day-to-day, including tracking time, budgets, forecasts and spend, ensuring everything stays aligned with progress.
- Ensure health and safety requirements are in place for site visits, including securing the necessary internal approvals.
- Support contract management and administration activities to keep projects running smoothly and compliantly.
- Proactively manage change and risk, working closely with technical teams to ensure projects stay aligned with scope, contractual requirements and governance standards.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, helping to coordinate and develop colleagues, partners and suppliers.
- Champion environmental outcomes, supporting the delivery of sustainability, future-ready and net zero ambitions across projects.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders, with opportunities to represent the Environment and Consents team and act as a trusted point of contact.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Experience working as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager within a project or PMO environment within environmental or sustainability sectors.
- A good understanding of programme management principles, including work breakdown structures, dependencies and critical path, with the ability to interpret outputs from tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6 or similar.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets, track performance and support effective change control, with experience delivering projects within budget. Familiarity with Professional Services Contracts (e.g. NEC3/4) would be advantageous.
- A confident communicator, both written and verbal, able to share key information clearly and keep project teams and stakeholders well informed.
- Working towards or holding membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS), with chartership or progression towards it welcomed. An interest in the environment and/or sustainable land development, alongside a positive, proactive approach and a genuine desire to grow your career.
