Experienced Retail Florist – Part-Time

Location: Mainly Colchester, with occasional cover at our Braintree shop
Working days: Monday and Tuesday, 9:30am–5:00pm

About Elegance of Essex

Elegance of Essex is an established independent florist with shops in Colchester and Braintree. We create flowers for everyday occasions, weddings, funerals and events, with a strong focus on quality, creativity and friendly customer service.

We are looking for an experienced retail florist to join our small team, working mainly in our Colchester shop with occasional cover at our Braintree location.

This position would suit a confident florist who is comfortable working independently in a busy retail environment, takes genuine pride in their work and consistently maintains high standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Create attractive, well-balanced hand-tied bouquets and floral arrangements to different styles, budgets and timescales
• Produce floral designs for retail orders, weddings, funerals and events
• Confidently assist customers with flower choices, designs, care advice and suitable alternatives
• Handle wedding and funeral enquiries professionally, sensitively and accurately
• Condition, prepare and correctly store fresh flowers and foliage
• Monitor flower quality and minimise unnecessary waste
• Maintain accurate pricing and ensure designs are made to the correct value
• Restock and merchandise products to create attractive, commercially effective displays
• Keep the shop clean, organised, welcoming and visually appealing
• Process customer orders carefully and accurately
• Work independently when required while contributing positively to the wider team

Experience and Skills

Previous professional retail floristry experience is essential. Applicants must be confident in:

• Creating commercial hand-tied bouquets efficiently
• Working accurately to a specified budget
• Producing funeral and sympathy flowers
• Preparing wedding and event flowers
• Conditioning and caring for fresh flowers
• Serving customers and taking detailed orders
• Maintaining consistently high presentation standards

Working Hours

• Monday: 9:30am–5:00pm
• Tuesday: 9:30am–5:00pm
• Occasional additional days may be available by prior agreement, particularly during busy seasonal periods

Pay and Benefits

• £13.00 per hour
• 11.2 days’ paid annual leave per full holiday year for a regular two-day working week, inclusive of bank holidays where applicable
