Pest Control Technician Job Description

Starting salary:

£29000 PA - £30000 PA

Plus, you will also be given the opportunity to gain further earning potential through overtime, commission-based sales* & our bonus scheme should the company achieve the required criteria.

* Commission to be earned on any sales leads provided and converted by the business.

Annual Leave:

28 days (This figure includes Bank Holidays)

Core Operating hours: between 8.00am - 7pm Monday – Saturday.

Working hours: 40 Hours per week. Variable due to travelling time or the type of work and you will need to be flexible. Work alternate Saturdays, if required.

Work any ‘out of hours’ on call duty rota that may be introduced (including Sundays), especially during the summer months. 30-minute lunch break per day.

Overtime: 2x basic hourly rate.

Additional Items:

Company pool vehicle & all necessary PPE & pest control equipment.

Company uniform.

Our pest control technicians play a vital part in delivering this vision. It is

therefore critical that you comply with the following requirements whist at


1. Maintain your personal hygiene and be presentable in full / clean uniform.

2. Carry your ID card.

3. Do not smoke in your vehicle or at a client’s premises.

4. Keep your vehicle clean, tidy & manage any pesticides stored inside.

5. Be courteous and polite at all times. Introduce yourself with a smile.

6. Speak to customer to understand their issues, what they have seen & where.

7. Inspect customer premises by walking around the whole property with the customer

(internal & external) & examining all areas. Use your torch etc.. and take active steps to reassure them.

8. Take photos/video of any key areas/issues/infestations.

9. Do not undertake any treatment until you have correctly identified the pest.

10. Undertake your risk assessment.

11. Advise the customer of what you have observed and plan to do. Answer any questions they may have.

12. If proofing is required advise them of this & provide a quote explaining what this entails.

13. Issue any treatment advice card & obtain their consent to commence any treatment.

14. Check to ensure they have correctly signed & dated & give them their copy.

15. Wear the correct PPE.

16. Prepare the required pesticide application & apply the correct treatment.

17. Comply with all Company Risk or COSHH Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.

18. Collect any dead animals and other samples for analysis or disposal.

19. Take care to ensure no mess or damage and clean up any spillage or mess before finishing.

20. Write up your treatment reports clearly detailing:

▪ The species of pest.

▪ The risks identified.

▪ Your observations.

▪ The treatment applied.

▪ The type & amount of pesticide (if any) used & the location it was deployed.

▪ The advice & recommendations given to the customer.

▪ Confirmation of any follow-up visit.

21. Ensure customer signs your report.

22. Take payment (where applicable) & thank customer for their custom.

23. Provide customer with a Checkatrade form when the treatment is completed.

24. Leave their property in a clean and safe condition.

25. Return any controlled waste to the stores.

26. Report any accidents or complaints immediately or should there be any issues with the above.

27. On any return visit, evaluate the pest control situation by:

▪ Re-inspecting the entire premises.

▪ Identify and determine the causes of any continuing or new infestation/s.

▪ Analyse the treatment provided, plus any further prevention and exclusion options needed.

▪ Ensure all previous recommendations have been completed and if not record this clearly.

▪ Record if any guarantee can be given or not – Always take photos to support this.

▪ Undertake proofing or other prevention works.

To support you in your role and complying with the above, you will be provided

with the required training, instruction & documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A full clean driving licence is mandatory, with a minimum of 1-year driving experience.
  • Minimum of RSPH Level 2 or equivalent in Pest Control desirable but ability to study and attain this qualification is essential.
  • Due to the security requirements of some of our clients, you will be required to obtain a clean Enhanced Disclosure Baring Certificate.
  • Excellent spoken English communication and customer service skills.
  • Qualifications in English & Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent.
  • Good written English communication for completing reports etc.
  • Confidence with basic maths, for measuring and calculating doses of pesticides.
  • Be capable of operating digital devices e.g. mobile phones, tablets etc.
  • Good ‘hands on’ practical skills for handling tools and equipment.
  • The ability to work effectively in a field-based role with minimal supervision.
  • Be self-motivated and work on own initiative.
  • The ability to spot potential issues, additional requirements and promote new works as opportunities arise.
  • Experience in rodent proofing, bird repellent installations and in servicing moth pots and EFK units.
  • The ability to cope with unpleasant sights and smells.
  • Not afraid of working at heights or getting dirty. This role will involve going into lofts and basements of a variety of properties.
  • Good health, Physical fitness and good eyesight.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all health and safety and environmental legislation and Codes of Best Practice.
  • To be flexible in working weekends and in the case of emergency pest control call outs.
  • To attend training sessions and collect CPD points.
