Full job description
Overview: Brickhouse Farm is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Horticulturalist & Park Ranger responsible for maintaining and managing our many gardens and vegetable patches and ensuring the overall health and aesthetics of the farm. This role combines horticultural expertise with environmental stewardship to support the farm's sustainability and community engagement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vegetable Patch Management:
- Plan, plant, cultivate, and harvest a variety of vegetables.
- Implement organic gardening techniques, including composting and natural pest control.
- Monitor soil health and amend soil as necessary to ensure optimal growing conditions.
- Coordinate with Lakeside Kitchen chef to provide organic restaurant quality produce
- Garden Maintenance:
- Prune, weed, and water all garden areas as required.
- Maintain garden equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Prepare a stock list and inventory of all garden equipment and supplies on a weekly basis.
- Develop and maintain pathways, borders, and other landscape features.
- Environmental Stewardship:
- Monitor and protect local wildlife habitats within the grounds.
- Implement sustainable practices to conserve water and promote biodiversity.
- Community Engagement:
- Brickhouse farm cottages is fully accessible. Our guest may have lots of questions, the ideal candidate will be kind, patient and have excellent customer service skills.
- Administrative Duties:
- Keep detailed records of planting schedules, crop yields, and maintenance activities.
- Assist in budget planning for garden supplies and equipment.
- Report any issues or concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor promptly.
- Miscellaneous Duties:
- Brickhouse Farm Cottages is a busy holiday site, with an onsite restaurant, hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, and agricultural department. Due to the diverse nature of the business, the candidate may be required to assist other departments with daily operations and miscellaneous tasks.
Qualifications:
- Education: Hold or working towards a certification in Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience or demonstrable passion in gardening, horticulture, or a similar role.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of plant care, soil health, and organic gardening practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain gardening tools and machinery.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for community engagement.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical labour, including lifting, digging, and bending.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Working Hours:
- Full-time: 36 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. Hours are variable and may increase/decrease.
- Part-time: To be discussed based on availability and business needs.
