Full job description

Hine Marketing – Gloucestershire
Permanent | Full-time or Part-time | Hybrid

Hine Marketing is an established Gloucestershire-based publishing company specialising in the automotive sector. Founded in 1992, we produce a portfolio of high-quality magazines for prestigious motoring organisations and clubs.

We are looking for an experienced Magazine Designer to join our existing design team. We are open to appointing either one full-time designer or two part-time designers, so welcome applications from candidates seeking either arrangement.

This is a hands-on magazine production role working across multiple titles, each with its own style and production schedule. Previous professional magazine or multi-page editorial design experience is essential.

The role can be predominantly home-based, but applicants must be UK-based and able to attend our Gloucestershire office approximately two to three days per month during busy production periods.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lay out magazine pages across a range of titles
  • Work with supplied copy and imagery to create attractive, well-balanced editorial layouts
  • Maintain the individual style and identity of each publication
  • Work across several magazines and production schedules simultaneously
  • Produce feature pages, regular editorial pages, advertisements and advertorials
  • Make accurate amendments during the proofing process
  • Prepare finished artwork to press-ready standard
  • Work closely with our editorial, production and existing design team
  • Meet fixed monthly publishing deadlines

Essential experience and skills

  • Professional magazine, newspaper or multi-page editorial design experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe InDesign
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong typography and page-layout skills
  • Experience preparing artwork for print
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently across multiple publications
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Reliable, flexible and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Applicants should be able to provide a portfolio showing relevant magazine or editorial design work.

Hours

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week

We are also happy to consider part-time applicants, with hours and working pattern to be agreed. Depending on the candidates available, we may appoint two part-time designers rather than one full-time designer.

The role offers considerable home-working flexibility, with attendance at our Gloucestershire office required approximately two to three days per month during key production periods.

Salary

£30,000 per annum for the full-time role

For part-time appointments, salary will be calculated pro rata based on £30,000 full-time equivalent.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV, a short covering note and a portfolio or examples of relevant magazine/editorial design work.

Relevant magazine or editorial design experience is essential for this role.

  • Knowledge of web design technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and content management systems such as WordPress
  • Experience with video editing software and motion graphics tools like Adobe After Effects for multimedia integration
  • Strong understanding of branding principles and ability to apply them consistently across various media formats
  • Excellent presentation skills to communicate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design tools such as Figma or InVision to create user-centered digital experiences
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Passion for digital design trends, photography, and innovative storytelling techniques

Join us as a Magazine Designer where your creativity fuels inspiring publications! Bring your expertise in visual storytelling, digital innovation, and branding to craft compelling magazines that captivate audiences across print and digital platforms. Your talent will help shape vibrant narratives while advancing your skills in a supportive environment dedicated to excellence.
