Are you an experienced Orthopaedic Medical Secretary who knows how to manage a busy consultant practice from end to end?

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Medical Secretary with a minimum of 5 years’ medical secretarial experience to take ownership of the day-to-day management of busy consultant practice at OS Clinic.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who understands the demands of supporting a busy consultant and can confidently manage patient pathways, clinics, theatre bookings, correspondence, diaries and patient enquiries, while delivering an outstanding level of service.

You will be highly organised, proactive and confident working autonomously, with the ability to anticipate the needs of your consultant and ensure their practice run efficiently.

A minimum of 5 years’ medical secretarial experience is essential for this position. Experience within orthopaedics or a closely related surgical specialty is highly desirable.

What you'll be doing

You will become a trusted point of contact for your consultants and their patients, taking ownership of their practices and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive, high-level medical secretarial support to designated consultants.
  • Managing consultant clinics, theatre diaries, appointments and procedures.
  • Coordinating the complete patient journey from initial referral through consultation, treatment and discharge.
  • Producing and managing medical correspondence accurately and efficiently.
  • Liaising closely with consultants, patients, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare professionals.
  • Proactively managing patient enquiries, follow-ups and outstanding actions.
  • Coordinating theatre bookings and ensuring patients have all the information they need ahead of procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Managing changes, cancellations and urgent requests quickly and professionally.
  • Supporting patient billing and payment processes and liaising with our external billing provider.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of your consultants’ practices, preferences and clinical services.
  • Building excellent relationships with patients, consultants and key external partners.
  • Supporting wider administrative, research and service improvement activities across the clinic.

What we're looking for

We need someone who can hit the ground running and who already understands what it takes to successfully support consultants and manage the competing demands of a busy private healthcare environment.

Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Medical Secretary.
  • Previous experience within orthopaedics, surgery or private healthcare.
  • Significant experience providing direct secretarial support to consultants.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and patient pathways.
  • Experience managing busy consultant diaries, clinics and correspondence.
  • Exceptional organisation and attention to detail.
  • Confidence communicating with consultants, patients and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to take ownership and work independently.
  • A genuine commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience.

Why join OS Clinic?

OS Clinic is a clinician-led organisation bringing together leading specialists to provide exceptional, personalised patient care.

This is an opportunity to become an integral part of a growing organisation where you will build strong working relationships with your consultant, take real ownership of their practice and play an important role in the experience our patients receive.

If you are an experienced Medical Secretary who enjoys responsibility, thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering an organised, efficient and patient-focused service, we would love to hear from you.

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • Birthday benefit
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Career Progression
  • 25 days annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus bank holidays
  • Hybrid - minimum of 3 days on site
