Technical Manager
Location: Plymouth, on site
Reporting to: Operations Director
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: TBD

We are seeking an experienced and commercially awareTechnical Manager to lead food safety, quality, and compliance across our food production operations.

Working closely with the Operations Director and wider leadership team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, legality, traceability, and customer compliance throughout our fishing, processing, and distribution activities.

This is a key leadership position requiring strong technical expertise, practical operational understanding, and the ability to promote a positive food safety culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all food safety, quality assurance, and compliance activities across the business.
  • Ensure compliance with UK and international food safety legislation, retailer standards, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and develop HACCP systems, traceability processes, and quality management systems.
  • Lead external audits, customer visits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Work collaboratively with the production team to drive continuous improvement and best practice.
  • Provide guidance on product integrity, supplier approval, risk management, and incident response.
  • Monitor emerging legislation and industry developments.
  • Develop and lead the food safety and quality team while supporting wider operational awareness.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven senior technical or food safety leadership experience within food manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, retailer standards, and seafood traceability requirements.
  • Experience managing audits and dealing with regulatory authorities and customers.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Pragmatic approach with the ability to balance operational demands and compliance requirements.
  • Degree or professional qualification in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or related discipline desirable.

Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year

Experience:

  • Food safety: 5 years (required)
