The Abbotsford Hotel is a long-standing boutique hotel in Ayr combining historic charm with modern hospitality following a recent remodel. Part of Southern Ayr Ltd, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional guest experiences across our bedrooms, vibrant restaurant and bar, and event spaces, while maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere for visitors and locals alike.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead our team and oversee all aspects of operations. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a passionate hospitality professional who thrives in a busy, guest-centric environment and has a proven track record in hotel or hospitality management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight of the hotel, including front of house, housekeeping, food & beverage, reservations and events.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive guest satisfaction, revenue, and profitability.
  • Collaborate with our People Team to recruit, train, mentor and motivate a high-performing team, fostering a positive culture which aligns with Our Why and Values.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and cost control to achieve business targets and operational goals.
  • Ensure high standards of service quality, cleanliness, health & safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the public face of the hotel, responding to guest feedback and building relationships with clients and partners.
  • Collaborate with the ownership on marketing, promotions and strategic growth initiatives.

About You

  • Proven experience in a senior hospitality or hotel management role.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to manage budgets and performance indicators.
  • Excellent customer service ethos and ability to resolve guest issues effectively.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required in a hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices related to recruitment, training, and employee relations.
  • Proficiency in using hotel management software and technology systems is preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a hotel or hospitality environment
  • A minimum of 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role
  • A strong understanding of restaurant, bar and hotel operations
  • Personal license holder
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
