Full job description
The General Medical Council (GMC) works to protect patient safety and improve medical education and practice across the UK. We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with experience of leadership and people management to join our Change and Knowledge Management (CKM) team as a Team Coordinator. You’ll influence the direction of the team through your innovative and collaborative management style, drawing on your compassionate leadership skills to bring the team with you on the journey of change and transformation.
You’ll lead a team of Support Advisers to ensure the CKM function performs at its very best, by supporting the facilitation and implementation of change across the directorate. You’ll support the team to deliver a portfolio of change initiatives – including systems and processes – by allocating work according to capacity. Your line reports will provide administrative support to project teams, as well as delivering business-as-usual changes for Operational teams. You’ll ensure the team is delivering high-quality and timely work to meet customer needs by engaging with performance monitoring and capacity management tools. You’ll monitor and measure performance, presenting data to inform decisions such as work allocation and the setting of team objectives.
You’ll drive team success by supporting the personal and professional development of your line reports. You’ll help them to grow both their soft and technical skills, by providing regular, honest feedback, praising colleagues for doing a good job and proactively tackling underperformance. Working closely with the Change Team Manager, you’ll help to deliver the directorate’s operational plan and team objectives. You’ll influence direction by creating persuasive and influential proposals, in the form of business cases and recommendation documents.
You’ll need to be a confident leader, with solid experience in team management, knowing how to get the best out of teams. This experience has given you the confidence to tackle complex programmes of work through careful planning. You’ll balance your own workload with the priorities of your team effectively, to delivery high-quality work to deadlines. You’ll plan, coordinate and facilitate team events and activities, demonstrating creativity to secure engagement and nurture an environment of continuous improvement.
How to apply for the role
Please provide a CV and complete the ‘Reason for Application and Supporting Statement' part of the application form. Details on how to complete this can be found in the attached guidance document.
If you do not provide all the above, we will not be able to progress your application.

Appointable pools
Should this campaign be successful in gaining an appointable pool, recruiting managers may choose to use the pool or advertise the roles separately. Appointable candidates will be in the pool for six months.
GMC Benefits – Why work for us
We work with doctors, PAs, AAs, those they care for and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors, PAs, AAs and their educators need to meet, and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors, PAs, or AAs may be at risk, we can investigate and take action if needed.
You’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people with several excellent benefits including:
- 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
- A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
- Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression
- Flexible working patterns
- Attractive salary that’s reviewed annually
- Discounts at 100s of high street and online stores
- Discounted gym membership
- Private medical insurance
- Employee assistance programme
- Cycle to work scheme for those wanting a greener commute
- Bike lockers and shower facilities
This is a hybrid role between home working and office working. You’ll work in the office at least 1 day per week, usually on a Tuesday. We may ask you to attend the office on additional days where necessary as required for induction, training and business needs. We are happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.
This role sits within our Manchester L4 band. To recognise the technical nature of the role, the salary is aligned to our IT and Data (35 hours) salary band.
Diversity and Inclusivity
The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination. We are committed to the Disability Confident Employer scheme, and candidates with a disability who best meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification will be offered an interview.
The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750)
