Full job description
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the largest provider of elective orthopaedic surgery in the UK and provides both routine and specialist orthopaedic services. The Trust is a renowned teaching hospital, with students and doctors both nationally and internationally seeking placements and fellowship roles with the Trust. The Trust hosts the Birmingham Orthopaedic Teaching Programme, one of the largest and most successful orthopaedic training programmes in the UK. The programme is comprised of 40 specialist registrars at different stages of a 6-year programme, during which they rotate through 9 hospitals across the West midlands, gaining experience in the different specialities of Trauma and Orthopaedics. In addition, our medical education team work in partnership with the University of Birmingham to provide 2-week musculoskeletal placements for their fourth-year medical students. One of the unique teaching opportunities the Trust offers during the medical student placement is Patient Simulated Teaching (SIMS).
The Trust has recently partnered with the new Aston Medical School at Aston University, which has provided the Trust with an ideal opportunity to increase the scale and offering of its already highly regarded Undergraduate Teaching Academy. This partnership will increase the Trusts already strong reputation as a teaching hospital both regionally and nationally.
Reporting to the Medical Education Manager, the key responsibilities of the role are:
Provide full administrative support for medical education, specifically to the Director of Medical Education, Medical Education Manager, Postgraduate Clinical Tutor, Director Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme, Head of Education and Training, Head of the Undergraduate Musculoskeletal Academy, Course organisers and Trainers on the Birmingham Orthopaedic rotation.
Deputise for the Medical Education Manager in their absence to promote, organise and co-ordinate postgraduate, undergraduate and continuing medical education for all doctors. Attend meetings and make decisions as appropriate.
Applicants should be qualified to A Level / a Level 3 qualification, or have an equivalent level of knowledge acquired by experience, with evidence of continuing personal and professional development. Experience of coordinating training programmes and activities is essential. The ability to be able to work collaboratively with others and adopt a flexible approach is also essential, together with the ability to be able to multi task in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience of working in the NHS and in a medical education environment would be advantageous. Applicants must be able to use Microsoft Office packages to a high standard.
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest specialist orthopaedic units in Europe. We offer planned orthopaedic surgery to people locally, nationally and internationally.
Our Trust is a very special hospital; big enough to deliver world class services and small enough to offer exceptional patient and staff experience. We offer a working experience unique in the West Midlands and we're always on the lookout for passionate people to join our award-winning team.
The ROH is an equal opportunities employer. We employ people of difference and are committed to growing an inclusive culture, where difference is celebrated, and people feel able to bring their whole and authentic self to work.
We are a Disability Confident Leader and offer a range of inclusive, family friendly and flexible working arrangements and policies, to support our people in the workplace. Flexible working requests will be considered.
The Trust is committed to the Disability Confident Interview Scheme and will offer an interview to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
If you have a disability and need any support with your application or require any reasonable adjustments to be implemented please do get in touch with the Recruiting Manager for this position so that the team can support you.
The post holder will carry out their duties in such a way to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation of the work. It is essential that the post holder should exercise initiative commensurate with the role and vital that confidentiality is always maintained.
Please see attached job description and personal specification.
Please note that this job vacancy may close before the advertised closing date if a sufficient number of applications are received. To ensure your application is considered and to avoid disappointment, we advise submitting your application as soon as possible.
