Full job description

Bring science to life for primary school kids with high‑energy after‑school clubs packed with explosions, experiments, and wide‑eyed “WOW!” moments. Mad Science is looking for our next group of after-school club leads in Cambridgeshire to run 1‑hour STEM sessions using ready‑made kits and scripts, leading hands‑on activities, dramatic demos, and take‑home projects.

This role is lively, creative, and brilliantly chaotic in the best way. We’re looking for someone to be the Mad Scientist, the showrunner, and the classroom hero all at once. We’re hiring for after-school clubs starting in the next academic year (September 2026) and need people available from the August for the in-person training (flexible in dates throughout the summer holidays)

If you’re keen to start sooner, we’re also looking for Camp Leads, where you’ll run extended versions of our after-school programme. Let us know in your application if you’d like to be considered for both!

Duties include

  • Independently leading the weekly after-school science clubs in primary schools
  • Running daring, science-based experiments, and encouraging children to do them (safely!)
  • Coming to our office in Cambridge to pick up and return equipment.
  • Behaviour management and safeguarding practices, to keep the environment safe for everyone.

Essential

  • Enthusiasm – it’s infectious, and the children love it, so we’re looking for outgoing personalities and people who can spark imagination and curiosity in children
  • Experience / knowledge of working with groups of school age children (4-12 years)
  • Valid driving licence – and access to a car during your working hours as you’ll be going to various locations
  • Available 2pm - 4:30pm (with opportunities for additional work)
  • Willing to undergo a full vetting and DBS check

Desirable

  • Theatre or performing experience
  • An interest in or experience in all things STEM

What we offer

  • Full in person training and ongoing support and mentorship
  • All materials, lessons plans and equipment – from the lab coats to the robots, we supply it all
  • Competitive rates of pay and flexible hours
