Full job description

Flexsource NI are working in partnership with the Agrifood and Bioscience Institute (AFBI) to hire a Scientific Officer in Pesticide Usage and Vector Surveillance.

This is a temporary - full time position for up to 7 months, based in the Newforge area of Belfast.

Main Duties:

  • Identify and classify vector insect species collected through field-based monitoring programmes.
  • Apply laboratory techniques and scientific identification methods to support research and surveillance projects.
  • Prepare, process, preserve, and catalogue specimens in accordance with laboratory quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of findings, contributing to national monitoring and disease surveillance activities.
  • Support environmental and animal health research through the collection of high-quality scientific data.
  • Work collaboratively with researchers and technical specialists in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Criteria:

  • Possess a minimum of 2 A Levels, one of which is in a scientific field
  • 2 years demonstratable experience working with microscopes
  • 2 years experience working with insect morphological identification
