Medical Secretary
Locations: Greens Norton (NN12 8BL) & Weedon (NN7 4RX)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 7.5 hours over 5 days
- Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday 0745-1545 hrs
- Thursday 1030-1830 hrs
- Driving Licence: Essential (two-site role) with business insurance
Would consider longer hours over 4 days.
About the Role
Greens Norton & Weedon Medical Practice (GNWMP) is looking for enthusiastic, committed, and flexible individuals to join our friendly administration team.
We are a two-site rural practice caring for approximately 14,950 patients. Due to the nature of the role, the ability to travel between both sites is essential, so a full UK driving licence and access to transport are required.
We are seeking individuals with a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to learn. Previous experience in a Medical Secretary role, a GP surgery or healthcare environment is desirable, but full training will be provided for the right candidates.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
This is a busy and varied role providing secretarial and administrative support to the GPs and wider clinical team. The successful candidate will need excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a professional and confidential approach at all times.
Key responsibilities include:
- Typing of clinical correspondence and referrals
- Processing referrals through the NHS e-Referral system
- Managing incoming correspondence and actioning where appropriate
- Liaising with hospitals, community services and patients
- Supporting GPs and clinicians with administrative tasks
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring confidentiality is upheld
- General administrative and secretarial duties as required
- Assisting the receptionist team in front desk and answering the telephone
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous secretarial or administrative experience, ideally within a healthcare or GP setting
- Excellent typing and IT skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and work independently
- Knowledge of SystmOne and NHS referral processes would be advantageous, although training can be provided
- Managing patient correspondence and emails
- Updating patient records accurately on SystmOne
- Scanning and attaching documentation to patient records
- Maintaining a tidy and organised area
- Assisting with audits, reporting, and data entry
- Contributing to health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics, awareness days)
- Ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection at all times
