Full job description

We are looking for a Legal Secretary to support our busy Childcare (Family Law) team.

  • Location: To be based at one of our six office locations, to be agreed
  • Salary: Dependent on experience
  • Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm (35 hours pw), although part-time hours would be considered
  • Basis: Permanent
  • Start Date: ASAP

This is a varied role at the heart of our Childcare Law team. As Legal secretary you will provide essential day to day support to file handlers, helping the department run smoothly and ensuring clients receive a responsive and professional service.

You will play a key part in keeping matters well organised, communications moving and meeting deadlines. Responsibilities will include:

  • Being a welcoming first point of contact for telephone enquiries.
  • Booking appointments and helping to manage file handler diaries.
  • Opening new files and ensuring that all compliance standards are met.
  • Drafting forms with guidance and support from the team.
  • Accurately creating letters using standard templates.
  • Transcribing dictation.
  • Creating bills and assisting file handlers with preparation of files for costing with our Law Costs Draftsman.
  • Taking credit card payments.
  • Managing incoming/outgoing post on behalf of the team.

Essential skills:

As Legal Secretary you must be:

  • Well organised and computer literate
  • Proactive and able to use your own initiative
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Good with clients and colleagues alike
  • Willing to learn and to develop new skills and knowledge
