Artisan People, Recruiting Agency is hiring staff for The British Museum for the position of Retail Assistant across the retail departments in the Museum.

If you are looking for a new challenge and you are able to commit to full time hours, following a rolling rota ( 4 on and 2 off), please read more details below.

Job Description

  • Assisting/ serving customers inside the shops with their purchases
  • General cleaning duties in the shop
  • Taking cash and card payments on a EPOS till system
  • Restocking the displays
  • Providing information about the exhibitions and the museum

Person Specification

  • DBS Holder ( paper certificate no older than 5 years )
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good with numbers
  • Works well as a team
  • Hard-working
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Positive attitude
  • Previous retail experience is crucial
  • MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 2 LATE NIGHTS per WEEK

Working hours will be across weekdays and weekends

Full time

Full time candidates:

Due to the Bayeux Tapestry Exhibition, the museum will be open for private events/public opening until 9pm Tues-Sat evenings from September until July 2027.

Shifts will be 7.75 hours long (6.75 paid plus 1-hour unpaid lunch) between the hours of 9am and 21.15pm.

Applicants will need to be available to work up to 2 late nights per week although may not be required that often. Possible shift patterns are 9.45-17.30, 11.00-18.45, 13.30-21.15.

1 full weekend off per month.

Candidates will be provided with additional information regarding shift pattern if their application is successful.
