Junior Graphic Designer
Salary: The starting salary is £36,228, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £33,219, basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £35,541. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: New Scotland Yard, Westminster. You may be expected to work at other Met buildings across London as part of a blended working agreement. There are also some opportunities for remote working when appropriate.
There is no greater mission than keeping London safe – and our people are how we achieve it.
The Metropolitan Police Service is transforming how it communicates, creating a more innovative, engaging and effective approach to reaching both its workforce and the public. As part of our award-winning Design Studio, the Junior Graphic Designer will play an important role in bringing this ambition to life.
Working across a diverse portfolio of internal and external campaigns, you will create high-quality visual content that brings the Met’s priorities, services and stories to life. Through compelling design, you will translate complex information into clear, engaging and accessible communications that inform, inspire and drive action. Your work will help officers and staff understand organisational priorities, feel connected to the Met’s purpose and take pride in the role they play in policing London. At the same time, you will help Londoners better understand the work of the Met, supporting transparency, trust and confidence in policing.
You will deliver creative assets across a range of channels and formats, including digital and print publications, infographics, posters, leaflets, animations, social media content, exhibition materials and brand assets. Working closely with colleagues across Communications and Engagement, HR, operational policing teams and corporate functions, you will help ensure communications are visually compelling, audience-focused and aligned to the Met’s brand standards.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic designer who is creative, adaptable and comfortable working at pace in a complex environment. You will be curious, proactive and able to build on initial briefs to develop innovative visual solutions that support some of the Met’s most important organisational priorities, operational communications and public-facing campaigns.
KEY RESULT AREA
- Design and deliver high-quality creative assets for internal and external campaigns, including digital and print publications, infographics, posters, animations, social media content, branding and marketing materials.
- Receive and interpret creative briefs, developing effective visual concepts and design solutions that support communication, engagement and campaign objectives.
- Maintain and develop the Met's brand toolkit, templates and visual assets, ensuring consistent and effective application of brand standards across all communications.
- Translate complex, technical or sensitive information into clear, engaging and accessible visual content for a range of audiences and channels.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, taking work from initial concept through to final delivery while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with Communications and Engagement colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers to ensure design projects are planned, prioritised and delivered effectively.
- Use audience insight, feedback and research to inform design decisions and continuously improve the effectiveness of communications products and campaigns.
- Keep up to date with emerging design trends, technologies and best practice, applying learning to develop innovative and engaging communications.
- Ensure all design outputs meet accessibility requirements, legal obligations and inclusive design standards, including WCAG guidance where appropriate.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Design Studio, sharing ideas, supporting colleagues and helping to maintain a creative, collaborative and high-performing team environment.
