About the Role:
This is a perfect role for someone looking for rewarding weekend work.
We are recruiting a female personal assistant to promote independence and community access for an energetic and active 13-year-old young lady.
The focus of this role is building independence and life skills, from getting out and about, to managing money and trying new experiences. If you are someone who leads by example, loves working with young people, and gets genuine satisfaction from watching someone grow in confidence and independence, this could be the perfect role for you.
Pay:
- Weekday hourly rate: £17.00
- Weekend hourly rate: £19.00
Benefits:
- 5.6 weeks annual leave
- Proactive case management input and support
- Paid training
- Travel allowance when transporting the client (£0.55 per mile)
- Additional shifts may become available during school holidays
Shift Patterns:
Saturdays: 11:00-17:00 (6 hours)
Hours may increase during school holidays as the family builds trust with the right candidate.
Applications are welcome from candidates who want to cover every Saturday, or alternating Saturdays.
About Our Client:
Our client is a bright and active 13-year-old girl living with her parents and older brother. She has ADHD, ASD, and an acquired brain injury. She is a ball of energy, direct, and speaks her mind. She takes things literally and is very black and white in her thinking, so clear communication and consistency are key. She responds to someone who is chirpy, motivating, and leads by example rather than simply asking her to do things.
She loves horse riding, swimming, bike riding, and baking. The role will involve supporting her to access these and other activities in the community. The family have a beloved pet cat, so a love of animals is a must.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 support at home and in the community
- Assisting with personal care, including verbal prompting, encouraging independence and assisting when needed
- Encouraging and modelling independence and life skills such as using public transport, ordering in cafes, and managing a budget
- Assisting with light household tasks including tidying, laundry, cooking and general upkeep of her living space
- Activities to be planned in advanced, not newly sprung on her as this causes anxiety
- Driving her to appointments and community activities, in your own vehicle
- Completing accurate and timely record keeping
- Working collaboratively with the wider support team including the speech and language therapist and personal trainer
- Setting and maintaining boundaries and consistency
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
- Female applicants only (required due to personal care needs)
- Experience working with children
- Experience supporting clients with autism
- Full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle
- Firm but friendly, able to set boundaries without overriding her autonomy
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively
Preferred:
- Experience supporting someone with a brain injury, learning disabilities or complex care
Application Process:
This role is restricted to female applicants only. Under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010, being female is a genuine occupational requirement for this role due to the intimate personal care needs of our client.
We invite interested candidates to apply. We are committed to inclusive and respectful recruitment. Shortlisted candidates may have an informal meeting with the client in a relaxed setting to ensure compatibility.
Note: We adhere to SAFE hiring practices, ensuring the welfare of vulnerable individuals. An enhanced criminal record check will be conducted.
Pay: £17.00-£19.00 per hour
Application question(s):
- Will you be able to provide references for all of your previous care roles? (if not why not?)
- Please can you provide the best email to contact you on?
- Where do you currently live? (we cannot reveal the client's address but can provide you with the drive time )
- On being successful, are you okay with us contacting your references and sharing your details with the employer? (YES/NO)
- As part of our SAFE recruitment process, we ask all candidates to confirm the following: Have you previously been dismissed from a role in health and social care? (YES/NO)
- Are you available for the set shift every Saturday from 11am-5pm?
- Are you comfortable working in a home with a pet cat (YES/NO)
Experience:
- Living in the UK: 5 years (required)
- working with children: 1 year (required)
Licence/Certification:
- right to work full time in the UK without sponsorship (required)
- Full UK Driving Licence with own car for work purposes (required)
Work Location: In person
