Full job description

Job Title: Animal Care Assistant
Location: Glenythan Vet Group, Ellon
Hours: 12-6pm Monday to Friday

The animal care assistant is responsible for providing first class care for our patients, keeping the kennels clean and ensuring surgical kits are sterilised and ready for the surgical team. Ensuring the effective and efficient running of the veterinary surgery by assisting our vets and nurses in a variety of tasks.

Key Tasks:

  • Clean kennels – Wash, disinfect and remake kennels
  • Maintain hygiene – Clean floors in kennel room, prep room and operating theatre
  • Manage laundry - Wash, fold, and put away patient bedding, towels and general washing
  • Soak and sterilise instruments/swabs etc. as required and ensure surgical packs are made up
  • Restock supplies - Ensure that stock levels are maintained and liaise with the team regarding daily wholesale orders
  • Basic inpatient Care - Ensure animals are fed and looked after as advised by the nurse/vet in charge of their care. Communicate with vets and nurses regarding their care.
  • Handle waste - Safely dispose of clinical waste and recycling.
  • Any other duties that may be required

Required skills:

  • Detail-oriented- Must be able to follow cleaning and sterilisation practice protocols and instructions from the vets/nurses.
  • Physical stamina - Able to stand, lift heavy items, and scrub.
  • Animal comfort - Comfortable working around vocal or anxious pets.
  • Time management -Able to efficiently balance cleaning duties with kit production and inpatient care.
  • Team player - Reliable, punctual, and ready to support veterinary staff.

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in cleanliness and animal care. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
