Trainee Children’s Home Manager
Location: Norton Canes
Salary: £47,000-£50,000
£47,000 on appointment, £50,000 after probation
Contract: Full time
About Coven Care Homes
Coven Care Homes provides residential care for children and young people aged 7 to 18 with emotional, behavioural, and mild learning needs.
We run small homes where children feel safe, known, and supported. Relationships come first, and consistency matters. Our aim is to help children build confidence, stability, and skills for adulthood.
The Role
This is a development role for an experienced senior practitioner who is ready to progress into registered management who has atleast 2 years experience in residentual leadership role.
As Trainee Children’s Home Manager, you will work closely with an established Registered Manager and senior leadership team. You will gain hands on experience across leadership, safeguarding, care standards, and compliance, with structured support to prepare you for future registration with Ofsted.
This role is suited to someone who understands residential childcare, values reflective practice, and wants to lead with care and clarity.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and development
- Support the day to day running of the home
- Act as a positive role model for staff
- Take part in supervisions, team meetings, and training
- Develop confidence in leadership and decision making
Care and safeguarding
- Support children’s emotional and practical needs
- Follow safeguarding procedures and risk management plans
- Promote children’s rights, equality, and inclusion
- Help maintain a calm and therapeutic environment
Quality and compliance
- Support audits and quality checks
- Learn regulatory requirements and Ofsted expectations
- Contribute to care planning, recording, and reviews
Partnership working
- Build respectful relationships with families and professionals
- Support communication with local authorities and external agencies
What We Are Looking For
- Significant experience working in a children’s home
- Experience in a senior or deputy role is preferred
- A clear interest in progressing into registered management
- Willingness to work towards a Level 5 Diploma if not already held
- Strong values around care, consistency, and accountability
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to work in the United Kingdom
