Full job description
Pro Medicus are a small busy family run independent ambulance service providing medical cover at Corporate and Public events including sporting fixtures, such as professional football, rugby, boxing, martial arts and music festivals.
The Company also provide non-emergency Patient Transport Services working in partnership with the NHS Trust delivering high quality care and support to patients being safely transported to and from hospitals, healthcare and social settings, as well as attending outpatient appointments.
We are looking to recruit Ambulance Care Assistants to join our Bank PTS Team, working on a rotating shift pattern covering the hours of 1000-2200, Monday to Sunday.
You need to be interested in other people, be able to reassure patients who may be nervous and deal with challenging behaviour so you will need to have excellent communication skills as well as being able to deal with distressing situations or circumstances with seriously ill or vulnerable patients.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
· Convey patients and escorts to and from home address, to and/or from hospital or other treatment centres and between hospitals/hospices, or other care facilities
· Providing emergency first aid to patients presenting with an illness or injury and recognition of when additional skills or support may be needed
· To undertake a full range of PTS duties including carry chair, stretcher work and wheelchair clamping;
· Physically manoeuvre and / or lift patients, using carrying aids, in circumstances where patients are unable to manage alone, after undertaking a manual handling risk assessment e.g. up and down stairs and within restricted spaces
· Administering oxygen to patients prescribed oxygen therapy during transit
· Reporting any concerns about the safety or well-being of service users promptly and appropriately
· Accurately completing all relevant operational documentation including patient report forms
· Completing all routine vehicle and equipment serviceability checks and reporting any defects promptly; maintaining a high standard of cleanliness of vehicles and ensuring they are stocked with appropriate equipment
· Provide a safe and quality of travel that is of a comfortable experience for passengers and non-detrimental to the patient’s condition
Person Specification
Essential
- Must have a current FREC3 certification (or equivalent healthcare recognised Level 3 qualification appropriate to the role.
- Good basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to carry out manual handling including the lifting of patients and equipment.
- Minimum of 21 years of age and holder of a full driving license for a minimum of 12 months, with no more than 3 penalty points (due to restrictions of ambulance driving insurance)
- Able to work as part of a team
- Confidence, with the ability to work with a range of people across all levels.
- A genuine desire to help and care for people.
- Good driving skills.
- A strong sense of responsibility and a serious attitude to work.
- Good time keeping and organisational skills.
- Physical and emotional stamina.
- The ability to work under pressure.
- An understanding of issues surrounding confidentiality.
