Freelance Site Manager

6 Month Contract

Delivering the Civils & HV Infrastructure Behind One of the UK's Growing Energy Sectors

Recruit 4 Construction are recruiting an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee the delivery of a major New Substation project in York.

This role will be responsible for the successful delivery of the full civils package together , requiring an individual who is comfortable managing multiple disciplines, coordinating specialist subcontractors and driving programme performance from site.

We're looking for a Site Manager who enjoys being out on site, solving problems, leading teams and taking ownership of project delivery.

This is not a paperwork-only management role.

We want someone who leads from the front, commands respect through experience and can keep a project moving when challenges arise.

You must have sub-contractor or Contractor experience for this role. Please do not apply for this role if you havent performed the role of Site Manager within a Civil Engineering Sub-Contractor environment.

You must have had previous experience of working on SubStations or substations environment.

The Project

The scheme involves the delivery of:

  • Full civil engineering package
  • Earthworks and foundations
  • Drainage and ducting infrastructure
  • Reinforced concrete works
  • Utility installations
  • External works
  • Coordination with specialist HV contractors and stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day site activities
  • Lead subcontractors, direct labour and site teams
  • Coordinate engineering, commercial and operational activities
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme
  • Chair site briefings and toolbox talks
  • Maintain quality standards and site documentation
  • Monitor progress and proactively resolve site issues
  • Build strong working relationships with the client, engineers and wider project team
  • Drive a positive site culture focused on safety, accountability and delivery

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience as a Site Manager delivering Civils on a substation/BESS environment
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Ideally from an Engineering Background
  • Proven leadership ability and a hands-on approach to site management
  • Strong problem-solving mindset
  • Experience managing multiple work fronts simultaneously
  • Ability to coordinate site teams, engineers and subcontractors effectively
  • SMSTS
  • CSCS Black Card
  • First Aid at Work
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Highly Desirable

  • Site Engineering background
  • BESS project experience
  • Substation experience
  • High Voltage infrastructure experience
  • Substation project experience
  • EUSR Categories 1 & 2
  • Experience working alongside DNOs, ICPs or National Grid-related projects
