Workday Developer / Integration Specialist – Contract

SourceWise is looking for an experienced, hands-on Workday Developer / Integration Specialist to support one of our global technology clients on an important enterprise integration initiative.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing integrations between Workday Financial Management and a modern API-based technology platform, including Workday Extend applications, Workday Orchestration flows, Workday APIs and integrations with external REST APIs.

This is a hands-on engineering and delivery role. We are specifically looking for someone who has personally built and shipped Workday integrations, rather than someone whose experience is primarily Workday configuration, functional consulting or advisory work.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build integrations between Workday and external APIs/SaaS platforms
• Develop Workday Extend applications
• Build native Workday user experiences using PMD / Canvas pages
• Work with Custom Business Objects
• Use Business Process Framework (BPF) triggers against Workday objects such as customers, suppliers and invoices
• Design and build Workday Orchestration flows
• Make outbound REST API calls from Workday
• Build inbound / receive orchestrations
• Handle asynchronous API integrations using receive orchestrations, webhooks and/or polling
• Map Workday Financial Management objects to external API data models
• Implement secure authentication and communication between Workday and external platforms
• Build robust error handling, retry and failure-management mechanisms
• Handle integration edge cases including API failures, timeouts, duplicate requests and partial processing
• Test integrations end-to-end
• Document integration architecture, configuration and operational processes
• Collaborate closely with software engineers to agree API contracts and integration patterns

Essential Skills & Experience

We are looking for strong hands-on experience across the following:

Workday Extend

• Proven experience building Workday Extend applications
• Custom Business Objects
• Native Workday UI development using PMD / Canvas
• Business Process Framework (BPF) triggers

Workday Orchestration

• Strong hands-on experience designing and building Workday Orchestration
• Outbound REST API integrations
• Inbound / receive orchestrations
• Asynchronous integration patterns

Workday APIs & External Integrations

• Strong practical knowledge of Workday SOAP and REST APIs
• OAuth 2.0
• WS-Security
• Integration System Users (ISUs)
• EIB and RaaS
• Experience integrating Workday with third-party REST APIs
• Authentication and data mapping
• Error handling and retry mechanisms
• Webhooks and/or polling
• API rate limits and resilient integration design

Workday Financial Management Experience

You should have a good understanding of:

• Order-to-Cash (O2C)
• Procure-to-Pay (P2P)
• Customer invoicing
• Supplier invoicing
• Customer and supplier / party master data
• How external platforms integrate into Workday financial workflows

Who We're Looking For

You will be a particularly strong fit if you:

• Are a hands-on Workday engineer, rather than primarily a functional consultant
• Have previously built real Workday Extend applications and Workday Orchestrations
• Have integrated Workday with external SaaS or API-based platforms
• Can independently investigate Workday capabilities and propose practical solutions
• Understand both the technical integration layer and underlying financial business processes
• Are comfortable working in an environment where not everything is fully defined upfront
• Can take ownership from solution design → implementation → testing → documentation
• Communicate effectively with both Workday specialists and software engineers
• Are comfortable collaborating with modern product engineering teams
• Can get productive quickly and focus on hands-on delivery

Wider Technology Environment

The wider engineering environment includes:

• Backend: Go / Node.js
• Frontend: React / TypeScript
• Database: PostgreSQL
• Cloud: Azure / GCP
• Infrastructure: Kubernetes

You do not need to be an expert in the wider technology stack. The key requirement is deep Workday development and integration expertise, combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers responsible for the external API/platform side of the integration.
