Compliance Manager

Location: Stockport

Who we are

Bright Money Group, a rapidly growing fintech organization, serves as the umbrella company for CarLoansUK. Located in Stockport with stunning views and convenient transport links, our offices boast a lively and friendly atmosphere. As an FCA registered entity, we pride ourselves on delivering top-notch service to our consumers.

Led by our experienced MD, a seasoned operational specialist, we are committed to propelling our business forward and nurturing our staff for success in this affluent market. CarLoansUK, our flagship brand, stands out as a leading motor finance broker dedicated to providing fair and honest advice. Our mission revolves around constructing a panel of lending specialists and customer service experts to ensure the best possible experience for dealers and consumers alike.

Your role as Compliance Manager:

We are seeking a proven compliance leader with a minimum of 5 years experience to take ownership of our Compliance & Risk function and ensure the business continues to meet the highest regulatory, conduct, and data protection standards. You will act as the organisation’s subject matter expert on FCA regulation, Consumer Duty, GDPR, and enterprise risk—providing both strategic leadership and hands-on operational oversight.
This role is critical to the continued growth and resilience of the business. You will work closely with the senior leadership team and Board to shape our compliance strategy, strengthen our risk culture, and embed regulatory expectations across every business area.

Your responsibilities will include:

Regulatory Compliance (FCA)
  • Serve as the primary expert on the FCA Handbook, including CONC, SYSC, PRIN & Consumer Duty, DISP, SUP and PERG.
  • Ensure full compliance within an FCA-regulated environment—ideally credit broking, consumer lending, retail finance, or related sectors.
  • Interpret new regulatory developments and translate them into actionable policies, procedures, and training.
  • Oversee and enhance compliance processes, including:
    • Regulatory reporting
    • SMCR (Fitness & Propriety, Conduct Rules, SMF oversight)
    • Compliance Monitoring Programme
    • Audit, assurance and regulatory engagement
  • Advise senior leadership on regulatory risks, compliance strategy, and forward-looking regulatory change.
Consumer Duty
  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing development of the Consumer Duty framework.
  • Maintain robust outcome testing, monitoring systems, and fair value assessments.
  • Produce and update the annual Consumer Duty Board Report.
  • Ensure Consumer Duty is embedded across:
    • Product governance
    • Distribution chains
    • Customer journeys
    • Data and MI reporting
  • Identify and mitigate risks of consumer harm, driving improvements across operations, sales, marketing, customer support and digital channels.
GDPR & Data Protection
  • Act as Data Protection Officer (or key advisor), ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, DPA 2018 and PECR.
  • Develop and maintain data protection frameworks including:
    • Privacy notices and data protection policies
    • Data retention schedules
    • DPIAs and LIAs
    • Data breach management and reporting procedures
  • Oversee data subject rights processes, lawful bases assessments, and data minimisation controls.
  • Ensure secure data handling practices and robust third-party/vendor due diligence.
  • Lead data protection training and awareness across the organisation.
Risk Management
  • Own the company’s Risk Management Framework, ensuring it remains fit for purpose and aligned with business strategy.
  • Conduct enterprise-wide, operational, and compliance risk assessments.
  • Develop and monitor risk appetite statements, KRIs, and incident/breach management processes.
  • Oversee internal audits, business continuity planning, and operational resilience frameworks.
  • Present clear, insightful risk reports and recommendations to senior management and the Board.
You will thrive in this role if you bring:
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior compliance, risk or regulatory role within an FCA-regulated environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in FCA regulation, Consumer Duty, and UK data protection law.
  • Proven leadership ability with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders and drive a culture of compliance.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance regulatory obligations with commercial objectives.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional qualifications in compliance, risk, or data protection (e.g., ICA, CISI, CIPP/E, IRM) are highly advantageous.
Why Join Us?
  • Salary to £65,000 plus the opportunity to move up to a head of role
  • Opportunity to shape and lead a critical function in a growing, ambitious business.
  • Senior-level visibility and Board engagement.
  • A culture that values integrity, transparency, and doing the right thing for customers.
  • Competitive salary, benefits package, and career development opportunities.
