Full job description

Guernsey, Channel Islands

A refreshing new healthcare career in an island community.

We have an exciting opportunity for a GMC Registered Locum Consultant Urologist to join the group on a 6-month fixed term contract.

About the Medical Specialist Group

We are a partnership of currently 56 Consultants, which, under contract, provides specialist medical services to the Guernsey Health Service with a health care model that is different and separate from the NHS. As well as providing contract care the MSG consultants also provide private care, which is remunerated separately, but is carried out in both MSG and PEH facilities as there are no other private facilities on island. MSG administration and secretarial staff also support a consultant private practice. Tertiary care services are supplied by hospitals on the UK Mainland, mainly Southampton University Hospital, usually through contracted services.

The Princess Elizabeth Hospital is a modern hospital with approximately 145 beds and strong clinical links to UK mainland centres, particularly Southampton General Hospital and Kings College Hospital.

Our vision is to be internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for clinical care and loved by the Guernsey community.

Our purpose is to use our expertise and compassion to provide outstanding patient-centred services that improve the health of the community we serve.

A better work-life balance

If you’re searching for a dose of sea air or a better work-life balance, our island community has it all.

Renowned for its sandy beaches and mild climate, Guernsey offers an idyllic, family friendly, lifestyle with excellent connections to the UK, France, and beautiful nearby islands.

Our flexible working patterns and short journey times give you more time to enjoy life, whether that’s a paddleboard and beach BBQ with the family after work, an afternoon hiking the cliffs or catching up with friends at one of our many award-winning restaurants.

For more information on what your new lifestyle could look like, or about the practicalities of re-locating to Guernsey, visit the dedicated website here . Alternatively, hear from other healthcare professionals who have relocated here .

About the role

We are looking to appoint a locum consultant urologist to join our existing urologist to provide high quality comprehensive consultant only secondary care to the local community in the Bailiwick of Guernsey (65,000 people approx.)

This is a 6-month post to backfill a substantive vacancy which has arisen because of increased demand for urological services in Guernsey. Historically, the urological service has been provided by a single-handed urologist.

We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates clinical excellence, is a good communicator and shares the values we place on long term partnerships.

The applicant should be comfortable in managing all core urological elective and emergency conditions. A subspecialty interest is also encouraged, and the present urologist would be happy to change his work balance to encourage this.

Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register, within 6 months of CCT or on the CESR pathway at the time of application.

Those interested in a job share or flexible working arrangements are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

In addition to the appealing lifestyle that Guernsey offers, we have an attractive benefits package which includes:

  • Generous salary (not utilising NHS pay scale) and current local Guernsey income tax flat rate of 20%
  • Opportunity to undertake private practice (with additional remuneration)
  • Accommodation provided (capped at the value of a 1-bedroom apartment – the locum is responsible for any excess).
  • Hire car provided for 3 months at full cost, with a 50% contribution thereafter
  • Private health insurance for yourself and your family
  • Pension scheme delivered by a long-established local pension specialist (up to 5% matched employer contribution)
  • Medical indemnity insurance cover
  • Free car parking at both the MSG and PEH
  • Pro rata allowance of 35 days per annum annual leave
  • Pro rata allowance of 10 days study leave with generous reimbursement package

Closing date for applications is Friday 30 January 2026.
