About Elixier Diagnostics
Founded by a radiologist and research scientist committed to clinical excellence, Elixier Diagnostics is Preston’s specialist private diagnostic centre. Our modern, patient-focused facility provides ultrasound, X-ray, CBCT, DEXA and GP consultation services under one roof, within a radiologist-led and clinically governed environment.
We are a values-driven organisation focused on delivering accessible, timely and high-quality care in a professional and welcoming environment. As we prepare to open, we are building a collaborative team committed to professionalism, patient experience and continuous improvement.
This is an opportunity to join an ambitious and growing healthcare business at an exciting stage of development.
The Opportunity
Elixier Diagnostics is preparing to open its doors and we are building our clinical team now. This is a rare opportunity to join a radiologist-led private diagnostic centre at the very beginning — helping to shape imaging services, clinical standards and the patient experience from day one.
You will deliver safe, effective and patient-centred diagnostic radiography providing X-Ray, DEXA and CBCT services. You will work within a professionally governed clinical environment with clear procedures, structured induction and ongoing support and development.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with an experienced multidisciplinary team in a modern and patient-focused diagnostic centre. Whether you are an experienced radiographer seeking a new opportunity in the independent sector or a recently qualified practitioner looking to build your experience in a supportive environment, we would welcome your application.
What You’ll Be Doing
Patient care and communication
- Provide respectful, compassionate and professional care to all patients, including those who are anxious, in pain, have disabilities or who have accessible communication needs
- Explain examinations clearly before and during imaging — what will happen, what the patient needs to do and what to expect afterwards
- Confirm patient identity using approved identifiers before each examination
- Obtain and document appropriate consent in line with Elixier Diagnostics policy and professional standards
- Protect patient privacy, dignity and comfort throughout preparation, positioning and imaging
- Recognise and escalate safeguarding, capacity, chaperone, clinical deterioration or distress concerns immediately
Imaging practice and radiation safety
- Undertake diagnostic radiography within your documented IR(ME)R entitlement and scope of practice
- Comply with IR(ME)R Employer’s Procedures and all relevant policies and Local Rules
- Ensure every exposure is justified and appropriately authorised before imaging commences
- Apply ALARP optimisation principles — achieving diagnostic image quality while keeping dose as low as reasonably practicable
- Use correct patient positioning, collimation, exposure parameters and anatomical side markers consistently
- Check pregnancy status where required under local procedure before any ionising radiation examination
- Prevent unauthorised access to controlled areas during exposures and use shielding and PPE as set out in Local Rules
- Stop and escalate where referral, patient identity, justification, equipment safety or patient safety is unclear — never proceed under uncertainty
Equipment, QA and image quality
- Complete pre-use equipment checks and QA tasks required for each modality before patient lists commence
- Check equipment condition, warning lights, exposure controls and safety interlocks at the start of each session
- Identify, record and report equipment faults, image artefacts or unexpected quality issues promptly
- Remove equipment from use where safety concerns arise and escalate appropriately
- Support reject and repeat analysis, image quality audit, dose monitoring and routine modality QA
- Maintain safe, clean and appropriately stocked imaging areas throughout the working day
Documentation and records
- Record imaging details accurately for every examination — including projection, exposure factors, operator identity, dose indicators and any repeat reasons
- Ensure images are correctly identified, annotated and transferred to PACS and reporting systems without delay
- Follow OP-01 Diagnostic Reporting and Results Management SOP for all examinations
- Record incidents, near misses, unintended or accidental exposures, equipment faults and patient safety concerns promptly and accurately
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and use only approved systems for records and communication
Referral pathways and scope of service
- Follow Referral Pathway and Scope of Service Procedure for all examinations
- Check referrals for completeness and clinical appropriateness within your entitlement before imaging
- Escalate unclear, incomplete, clinically inappropriate or duplicated referrals to an entitled Practitioner or Clinical Lead — never image on an inadequate referral
- Ensure no imaging is performed outside Elixier’s approved scope of service without formal governance authorisation
Infection prevention and health and safety
- Follow IPC, hand hygiene, PPE, cleaning and equipment decontamination procedures between every patient
- Comply with fire safety, manual handling, lone working, incident reporting and emergency response procedures
- Support safe patient transfer, positioning and mobility assistance in line with your manual handling training
Professional practice and governance
- Maintain current HCPC registration and act within HCPC Standards of Proficiency and Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics at all times
- Maintain CPD, training records and evidence of ongoing competence in line with HCPC requirements
- Participate in induction, supervision, appraisal, peer discussion, clinical audit and governance review
- Contribute to a just, open and learning culture — raise concerns about unsafe practice, equipment, governance or patient safety without delay
- Comply with Duty of Candour, complaints handling and incident reporting procedures where relevant
What We’re Looking For
Essential
BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or HCPC-approved equivalent
Current HCPC registration as a Radiographer
Knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR17 and ability to work within Local Rules
Competence in general diagnostic radiography
Ability to work within documented entitlement, protocols and scope of practice
Strong patient communication, positioning and dignity skills
Understanding of radiation protection, dose optimisation and ALARP principles
Understanding of IPC, safeguarding and information governance in a clinical setting
Desirable
Experience in independent sector, community diagnostics or outpatient imaging
Experience supporting QA, reject analysis, dose audit or optimisation programmes
Familiarity with PACS / RIS systems
DEXA and CBCT experience highly desirable.
Hands-on experience with Fujifilm digital radiography systems FDX Visionary DEXA and Giano HR 3D/CEPH or similar systems.
Current basic life support certification
Experience working in a small or start-up clinical environment
What We Offer
- A structured induction, IR(ME)R entitlement process and full equipment-specific training before unsupervised practice — you will not be left to figure it out alone
- Radiologist-led reporting and direct clinical support within a professionally governed clinical environment
- Clear Local Rules, Employer’s Procedures, QA frameworks and escalation routes so you always know where you stand
- A calm, patient-first working environment where clinical quality and professional standards are taken seriously
- Real scope to grow — as the service expands to additional modalities, so does the opportunity to develop your skills and scope of practice
- Flexible working patterns — employed, sessional or bank arrangements considered
- Competitive pay commensurate with experience
- Ongoing CPD support and participation in clinical audit, peer discussion and governance review
