Are you a qualified Critical Care Outreach Advanced Clinical Practitioner looking for a new challenge in a large tertiary centre? The Critical Care Outreach Advanced Clinical Practice team (CCOT ACP) are recruiting.

We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative member to join our existing team, and we welcome applicants from nursing and allied health professional backgrounds. UHS CCOT service was established in 2001 and is a 24/7 acute care referral service covering approximately 1200 adult beds across a large tertiary centre. The CCOT ACPs work collaboratively with the ward teams across all specialist areas within Southampton General Hospital & Princess Anne Hospital, providing high-quality advanced-level care and management of acutely ill adult patients and adult patients who are at risk of deterioration or other immediate life-threatening events.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

We have a dedicated Consultant Intensivist providing regular formal clinical supervision and education. We are committed to supporting your ongoing development across the 4 pillars of advanced practice, providing you with the opportunity to explore research/ audit/ service improvement projects, formal and information education and teaching opportunities and the development of your leadership and advanced clinical skills.

What you’ll do:
  • The CCOT ACP responds to acute referrals and emergency calls to any adult patient across the organisation
  • You will undertake a comprehensive patient assessment, critically analyse clinical findings, formulate differential diagnoses, initiate treatment to manage and stabilise the clinical condition and evaluate its impact.
  • Avoid unnecessary critical care admissions and facilitate escalation of care decisions.
  • Instigate critical care intervention at the patient's bedside before appropriate admission to critical care
  • Protected 20% non-clinical time for advanced practice portfolio development, educational opportunities, service improvement and QI projects.
What we’re looking for

  • Ability to work autonomously, undertaking expanded roles.
  • Completed the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice.
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating advanced practice across the 4 pillars of advanced practice.
  • Completed National Outreach Forum Advanced Critical Care Outreach Competencies or speciality-specific advanced capabilities.
  • Significant experience within the speciality.
  • Able to work internal rotation, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Diplomacy and effective communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
