Could you lead the next chapter of interpretation across three world-class RHS gardens? As Interpretation Manager (South), you'll lead the regional interpretation programme for RHS Wisley, RHS Hyde Hall and RHS Rosemoor, setting priorities, developing your team and overseeing the delivery of a diverse portfolio of interpretation that connects millions of visitors with gardening.
Working with colleagues across horticulture, science, learning, collections and public engagement, you'll identify new opportunities, shape ambitious interpretation projects and ensure our stories are shared in engaging, accessible and imaginative ways. You'll lead larger projects, manage regional investment and build the partnerships that enable great ideas to become exceptional visitor experiences.
As part of the Public Engagement management team, you'll also help shape the future direction of interpretation across the region - developing long-term plans, championing innovation and audience insight, and supporting the growth of a consistent, high-quality interpretive experience offer across our gardens.
Please note that interviews for this role will be held in late August 2026.
Overview of the Role:
In this role you'll:
- Lead and develop the regional Interpretation Team, supporting and inspiring colleagues to deliver exceptional visitor experiences.
- Shape and deliver a diverse programme of interpretation across RHS Wisley, Hyde Hall and Rosemoor.
- Lead the development of engaging interpretation that connects visitors with plants, gardens, science and horticultural stories.
- Manage regional budgets, procurement and external creative partners to deliver high-quality projects.
- Build strong partnerships with colleagues across the RHS to identify opportunities and develop compelling visitor experiences.
- Champion accessibility, sustainability and audience insight, ensuring interpretation continues to evolve and inspire.
We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience leading interpretation, exhibitions or visitor engagement within a heritage, cultural or visitor attraction environment.
- A track record of delivering complex creative projects, managing budgets and commissioning external designers and contractors.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Leadership skills, with experience managing teams and developing people.
- A passion for creating engaging, inclusive visitor experiences informed by audience insight.
- An interest in gardens, horticulture, culture or the natural world would be an advantage.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape interpretation across three world-class gardens while helping to develop a growing national interpretation function. You'll have the opportunity to influence long-term planning, foster creative partnerships and lead a talented team dedicated to creating memorable experiences that inspire millions of visitors every year.
To work for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is to join a thriving charity, whose mission is to be there for everyone on their lifelong adventure with gardening. Everything we do is built on the transformational power of gardening – and the benefits it brings to people, places and our planet.

From working across our social media channels, to volunteering in the RHS Gardens, from serving customers in our garden centres to running national marketing campaigns, we believe that every member of the RHS team should have the opportunity to make a difference. Our careers portal here provides a comprehensive overview of what we offer, the teams that work at the RHS and our great benefits.
