Job Title: Housing Complaints Officer
Location: Remote
Contract Type: Temporary (Initially 8 week period, potential for extension)
Hours: 15 hours per week (flexible arrangements will be considered)
Salary: £28-£32 per hour (DOE)

Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an experienced Housing Complaints Officer with a strong background in homelessness services to provide temporary support to our Housing Service during a period of increased demand.
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of complex housing complaints, with a particular focus on complaints relating to homelessness, temporary accommodation, housing duties and housing allocations. They will undertake detailed investigations, work closely with service managers and operational teams, and produce robust, evidence-based responses that meet corporate standards, Ombudsman expectations and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and investigate Housing complaints from receipt through to resolution.
- Gather information and evidence from relevant teams and systems.
- Liaise with officers across Housing services including:
- Homelessness
- Housing Register and Allocations
- Lettings
- Temporary Accommodation
- Draft clear, accurate and customer-focused complaint responses.
- Ensure complaints are handled in line with corporate procedures and statutory requirements.
- Support the service in meeting complaint handling timescales and performance standards.
Essential Requirements
· Significant experience of working within a local authority homelessness service or a closely related housing function.
· Sound knowledge of homelessness legislation, including Part VII of the Housing Act 1996, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and associated statutory guidance.
· Strong understanding of local authority housing services, particularly homelessness prevention, relief duties, temporary accommodation, allocations and housing register functions.
· Experience investigating and responding to housing complaints within a local authority, housing association or other social housing organisation.
· Ability to analyse casework and assess decisions against legislation, policy and procedure.
· Strong investigation and analytical skills.
· Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to draft detailed, balanced and sensitive responses.
· Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and work with minimal supervision.
· Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience responding to Housing Ombudsman enquiries or complaints.
- CIH qualification or equivalent housing-related qualification.
Rate
Indicative rate: £28-£32 per hour (depending on experience) or equivalent day rate.
