Shop Manager – 13 Acre Orchard – Borough Market

Location: London
Salary: £30,000 per year
Bonus: Performance-based bonus up to £5,000
Food allowance: £2,500 per year
Hours: Full-time (including weekends)

The role

We are looking for a Shop Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of our fruit and vegetable shop at Borough Market.

This role suits someone who has spent several years working with artisan, high-quality food, has a strong understanding of fruit and vegetables, and is confident dealing with customers and driving sales.

You will be working in a small team within a growing independent business, so reliability, honesty, and a hands-on attitude are essential.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the shop
• Deliver excellent customer service and build long-term customer relationships
• Confidently sell fruit, vegetables, and food products
• Maintain high standards of produce quality, display, and stock rotation
• Oversee ordering, stock control, and waste reduction
• Ensure health & safety and food-handling compliance
• Support, guide, and set standards for other shop staff
• Use simple systems to track stock, sales, and ordering
• Work a full-time rota including weekends (Borough Market trading days)
• Work closely with the owner to help the business grow

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years’ experience working with artisan or high-quality food

(fruit & veg shops, farm shops, markets, delis, specialist retailers, kitchens, or similar)

• Strong, demonstrable knowledge of fruit and vegetables
• Very good with customers and confident building relationships
• Comfortable selling and talking about food
• Confident and knowledgeable when training staff
• Reliable, honest, and trustworthy
• Organised and comfortable taking responsibility
• Keen to grow with the business over time

Formal corporate management experience is not required, but real responsibility and food knowledge are essential.
