About the job

Job summary

Do you want a role safeguarding standards of animal and plant health and welfare?

APHA is a brilliant place to work where our people feel valued, have a voice and can be their authentic selves. We value difference and diversity, because it helps us be more innovative and make better decisions. We are dedicated to being an inclusive employer, offering equitable opportunities for all individuals. Our goal is to build a diverse workforce, and we hope to attract applications from all backgrounds and underrepresented groups.

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and works on behalf of the Scottish Government and Welsh Government. Our diverse teams of over 3,000 skilled and committed professionals come together to provide research, advice and support to UK Government for safeguarding animal, public and plant health for benefit of the environment and economy.

The GB Non-native Species Inspectorate (NNSI) works to minimise the risk of non-native species (NNS) becoming established in Great Britain through various initiatives, including monitoring and inspecting pathways of introduction, and supporting contingency and rapid responses.

Some of the responses involve surveillance for and capture/control of animals. Where contingency response is required to remove species from the wild, the inspectorate helps to deliver the response in the field, often with or under the direction of other GB Agencies. The role will involve surveillance and control work on invasive species and will be a combination of office/home-based working and field work with field work at a wide range of locations.

We are looking for compassionate, dedicated individuals who strive for excellence and integrity and who put biosecurity at the heart of everything they do.

Are you conscientious and an excellent team worker?

If the answer is ‘yes’, we would love to hear from you!
