Full job description
After School Club Manager (Setting Leader), Wythenshawe | £14.30 per hour | Level 3 Required | Term-Time
Run your own club. Keep your middle of the day. Home by 6.30pm.
At 3pm they come flying out of those doors with a week's worth of energy, and for the next three hours you are the best part of their day.
That is the job. It matters far more than most people give it credit for.
You will need a Level 3 in childcare, early years or playwork (or equivalent) to apply. This is a lead role with real responsibility, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
The Hours
After school: 3-6pm
Monday - Friday, term time only.
The middle of the day is yours. Our leaders use it for study, a second income, their own children, the gym, or nothing at all. That is the trade, and for the right person it is a very good one.
This club will be yours
You did the Level 3. You put in the hours, the placements, the coursework. And there is a decent chance you are still working somewhere that treats you like a pair of hands.
Someone else writes the plan. Someone else decides how the room runs. You do the work and hand it back at the end of the shift.
Here, you open the doors. You decide what happens in that hall. You know every child's name, who has a peanut allergy, who is having a rough week, and who needs ten minutes alone with the Lego before they will talk to anyone.
And you will not be doing it alone
Running your own setting only works if someone has your back on the days it goes sideways.
When something goes wrong, our Head of Childcare answers the phone.
Not a voicemail. Not an email you get a reply to on Thursday. If you have ever stood in a hall with a hurt child, an angry parent and nobody on the other end of the line, you will know why we put that in writing.
What you will be doing
- Opening up, setting the room, greeting every child by name
- Planning and running sessions: sport, games, crafts, free play, a quiet corner for homework
- Snack after school
- Leading and supporting your team of 2-3.
- Keeping registers, ratios, allergy records and safeguarding tight, every single day
- Handing every child over safely and on time
This is for you if
- You hold a Level 3 and want a role that actually uses it
- You would rather run something than be told how to run it
- You are reliable to the minute, because a club that opens at 3:34 is a problem for thirty families
- You can meet a worried parent at the door with a smile and a straight answer
This is not for you if
- You want one solid block of hours in the middle of the day
- Safeguarding paperwork feels like an optional extra
- You freeze when a child is in tears at 5:45 and a parent is complaining at the door
What you get
- £14.30 per hour
- A paid day off for your birthday. If it falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, take another day around it instead
- Paid safeguarding, paediatric first aid and food hygiene training
- Every renewal booked and paid for before it expires. You will never be the one chasing an employer to sort your first aid ticket, and you will never turn up to a shift out of date
- Paid holiday camp work through the school breaks if you want the extra hours
- Your enhanced DBS, arranged and paid for by us
- Kit, resources and policies, all provided
Where this goes next
We open in more schools every term, and we promote from inside. The person running the next setting we take on, and the area lead above them, will have started where you are about to.
If you want that, we will fund the training to get you there: Designated Safeguarding Lead, Level 4 or Level 5 in Leadership and Management, and Forest School Level 3. Say so on your application and we will talk about it at interview rather than a year from now.
What you need
- A Level 3 in childcare, early years, playwork or equivalent. Essential, not desirable
- Experience working with primary-aged children
- An enhanced DBS, or the willingness to get one. We arrange it and pay for it
Apply
If you read those hours and thought "that actually fits my life", that is usually a very good sign.
Apply today by completing our the questionns you'll receive when you apply:
We just want to know where you have worked with children and why this one appeals to you. If it looks like a fit, we call you within 48 hours.
All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. You must have the right to work in the UK. School of Play is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Pay: £14.30 per hour
Benefits:
- Childcare
Work Location: In person
