Full job description
Practitioner/Tutor – Horticulture & Outdoor Learning
Term Time Only Position
Salary: L3 - L6 Unqualified Teachers Scale (£26,716 - £33,902 per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience
As our school continues to grow and flourish we are introducing new roles. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as a Practitioner - Horticulture and Outdoor Learning.
Valley Bridge School is a newly opened independent specialist school set within a beautiful and extensive campus between Gloucester and Stroud.
At Valley Bridge School we adopt a creative, individualised approach for students who have barriers to learning associated with social, emotional, mental health and ASC needs. Our curriculum approach, Enterprise Learning, allows our students to rebuild confidence in their abilities, feel safe and supported, and gain skills and knowledge that will allow them to thrive in the modern world.
Our practitioners work with our students as industry professionals, who deliver creative and active learning experiences to support the development of specialist skills and qualifications.
As the Practitioner for Horticulture and Outdoor Learning you will work with colleagues to plan and deliver projects that meet student’s needs, offering them a broad range of opportunities and experiences within your area of expertise.
Valley Bridge School is set in beautiful and diverse grounds, this is a wonderful opportunity for a person who is passionate about horticulture, environmental stewardship and outdoor education to work alongside our students to deliver meaningful projects that will enrich and sustain the school environment.
You must be able to build effective and supportive relationships with our students, which encourage their engagement and development of self confidence and enjoyment.
Applicants for Practitioner posts must hold relevant qualifications in their area of expertise (equivalent to level 3 - 5). Being a qualified teacher is not a requirement, however experience of teaching or working within a relevant setting would be an advantage.
Candidates must have experience within their industry and have a desire to teach. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate vocational experience as well as having excellent administrative and organisational abilities in order to perform the role successfully. Our practitioners must be able to lead creative sessions with our students that encourage a high level of active participation and foster a co-learning ethos.
Candidates will be supported with a role specific induction and there are excellent opportunities for personal development, including support to gain a recognised teaching qualification.
We understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with students and families to nurture growth and development of relational milestones such as, building trust and sharing enjoyment. Care and making connections are at the heart of our ethos and we work hard to ensure that all staff feel cared for too.
The well-being of our staff is an important priority; therefore we provide opportunities to ensure we value their hard work and dedication and promote a healthy work-life balance. We are constantly reviewing our practices to ensure that our staff can focus on what matters: providing a rich environment in which children and young adults can learn and thrive.
We recognise that our schools all serve their own communities and are unique, but we also insist that our schools follow Spaghetti Bridge ways of working which ensure that there are high expectations and equality of opportunity for all our pupils.
Early application is encouraged, we may seek to appoint prior to the closing date.
