Full job description

Overview

The Maintenance Person is responsible for ensuring that the physical environment of the care home is safe, well-maintained, comfortable and compliant with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements at all times. This is a wide-ranging and important role that directly supports the wellbeing, safety and quality of life of all residents, staff and visitors.

Working under the direction of the Registered Manager, you will manage and carry out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across the building, grounds and equipment. You will play a central role in the home's statutory compliance programme — including fire safety, water hygiene, gas and electrical safety — and will work closely with the management team, external contractors and regulatory bodies to ensure the home consistently meets the standards required by the CQC and other relevant authorities.

You will always work respectfully and sensitively in an environment that is home to vulnerable residents, ensuring that all work is carried out with minimal disruption to their daily lives and with full regard for their safety and dignity

Responsibilities

  • General maintenance and repairs
  • Plumbing repairs including leaks, blockages, and routine maintenance
  • Carpentry work such as doors, fixtures, fittings, and minor structural repairs
  • Basic electrical maintenance (non-qualified works) including lighting, switches, sockets, and fault finding
  • Grounds and garden maintenance to ensure outdoor areas remain safe and presentable
  • Water testing and compliance checks in line with company procedures
  • Decorating, caretaking duties, and general upkeep of building and facilities
  • Responding promptly to maintenance issues and ensuring work is completed to a high standard

Experience

  • Have proven maintenance experience across a range of trades
  • Understand that our homes are residents’ homes, and carry out work with care, discretion and respect
  • Communicate politely and professionally with residents, families and staff
  • Be confident working independently and managing their own workload
  • Be able to prioritise tasks effectively, putting resident safety and comfort first
  • Have experience in care homes, housing, education, facilities management or a similar setting
  • Take pride in delivering high-quality work and finding practical solutions
  • Be organised, reliable and proactive in their approach
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Pay: From £14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:
