Engagement and Events Officer - AtoBetter | 10662 | Temporary Contract | Variable hours per week (Monday- Sunday) | £25,185 per annum pro-rata / £13.05 per hour (Scale B) | County hall, Norwich

We are seeking enthusiastic and personable individuals to join the Norfolk County Council AtoBetter team, supporting the delivery of sustainable and active travel initiatives across Norfolk.

AtoBetter is dedicated to making everyday journeys easier, while encouraging people to travel by walking, cycling, public transport, and car sharing. We work closely with local communities to provide free travel advice and practical support. Events, workshops, and community sessions are a key part of our engagement approach.

About the Role

As an Engagement and Events Officer, you will contribute to the planning, promotion, and delivery of a wide range of events. This includes supporting event logistics, engaging with local residents, community groups and stakeholders, and collecting valuable feedback from participants.

This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on both public health and the environment by encouraging sustainable travel behaviours across Norfolk.

Working Arrangements

We are recruiting multiple individuals on a casual basis to build a flexible team capable of supporting events throughout the year. While the role does not require a significant time commitment, availability for occasional evening and weekend work is essential.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in active and sustainable travel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational abilities and attention to detail
  • A positive, proactive, and reliable approach

Previous experience in event planning or delivery is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

What We Offer

This is an engaging and fulfilling role, providing the opportunity to work directly with the public and promote positive behavioural change.

We are committed to creating a supportive and flexible working environment where our people feel motivated and able to perform at their best. Hybrid working is available, and you will be provided with the necessary equipment and technology to work effectively both remotely and on-site. Please note that reliable internet connectivity is required for remote working.

These are some benefits you can enjoy by working for Norfolk County Council:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Health and Wellbeing services including fast-track physiotherapy and a free counselling service
  • Flexible working opportunities including flexi-time, part time, remote and hybrid working – dependent on your job role and business need.
  • Financial benefits such as:
    • ‘ Norfolk Rewards’ our employee discounts programme which helps you save money on almost anything, from everyday groceries and clothes, to holidays, new technology, gym membership, trips to the cinema and days out.
    • A Blue Light card for Fire Service and Social Care Workers
    • Relocation expenses (where applicable)
    • An advance of your expenses if you travel for work
    • Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution, life assurance, death in service payments and dependants’ pensions
    • Tax efficient ways of getting extra pension and new bikes
    • Access to our tax efficient car lease scheme for greener travel enabling you to lease a brand new, ultra-low emission vehicle (subject to eligibility)
    • A payment if you refer someone you know to a hard to fill job

We want our people to be inspired and motivated to work well together, make the most of our workspaces, enjoy a healthy work-life balance, and deliver excellent services to Norfolk and its people. Flexibility is built into the way we work, with hybrid working a key feature for many roles. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.

Before you apply, we recommend reading the full Job description and person specification to help you demonstrate how you meet the criteria. You can also find information on our Terms and Conditions here.
