Café Assistant – Jack’s Hill Café, Towcester

Join the team at Jack’s Hill Café, a well-known and much-loved meeting place in the Towcester area with a history dating back to 1955. Traditionally popular with bikers, truckers, travellers and the local community.

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Café Assistant to become part of our team and help us continue providing customers with great food, drinks and a warm, welcoming experience.

With a varied menu including all-day breakfasts, burgers, fish and chips, sandwiches, hot baps, homemade cakes and a range of hot drinks, every day at Jack’s Hill Café can be different. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills across customer service, food preparation, drinks service and hospitality while working in a busy and friendly environment.

Your Responsibilities

• Welcome customers with a friendly and positive attitude and provide excellent service throughout their visit.
• Take customer orders and prepare and serve a range of hot and cold drinks, including tea and coffee.
• Help prepare and serve a variety of food, including breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, snacks and other café items.
• Keep tables, counters, serving areas and equipment clean, tidy and well organised.
• Operate the till accurately and handle cash and card payments efficiently.
• Follow food hygiene, health and safety procedures at all times.
• Replenish food, drink and other stock and ensure serving areas are kept well supplied.
• Support colleagues during busy periods and help the café run smoothly.
• Provide a friendly and welcoming experience to our wide range of customers, from local visitors and regulars to bikers, truckers and travellers.
• Work as part of the wider Jack’s Hill Café team to maintain high standards of service and cleanliness.

• The ability to remain calm, positive and efficient during busy periods.
• An interest in food, drinks and hospitality.
• A willingness to learn new skills and take on different responsibilities.
• Basic numeracy skills for handling payments and using the till.
• An understanding of food hygiene and cleanliness is an advantage.
• Previous café, restaurant, hospitality or barista experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Familiarity with coffee-making equipment is welcome, but full training can be provided for the right person.
