Job Summary

20 HOURS PER WEEK

£61,200 FTE plus £3,200 RESPONSIBILITY ENHANCEMENT

(£32,640 PLUS £3,200)

The Clinical Lead Practitioner for Integrated Urgent Care Services (IUCS) is responsible for providing expert clinical leadership, management, and oversight across a range of urgent care provisions. This includes working clinically and operationally within Out-of-Hours face-to-face, telephone triage and home visiting, Clinical Assessment Services (CAS), telephone consultations and Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs).

The role requires a highly experienced, independent prescriber who can deliver clinical care across all service areas and provide day-to-day leadership and management to the multidisciplinary teams operating within them.

The postholder’s contract will be split between direct clinical work and strategic/operational leadership. This includes contributing to service delivery while overseeing clinical staff, ensuring high standards of performance, and maintaining safe, efficient departmental operations across sites.

Location: Stoke Mandeville Hospital, High Wycombe General Hospital and Princes Risborough Head Office

Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Practice:

• Deliver urgent care clinical services across OOH face-to-face clinics, telephone triage, home visits, CAS and UTCs.
• Act as a senior clinical decision-maker and prescriber, supporting safe, effective care delivery.
• Promote best practice and evidence-based care across all urgent care settings.

Operational & Strategic Management:

• Provide daily oversight of urgent care clinical operations across multiple sites.
• Ensure services are appropriately staffed and resourced, supporting performance and rota planning.

Governance & Quality:

• Monitor compliance with national and local quality and governance standards.
• Lead and support incident reviews, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
• Champion a culture of safety, learning, and clinical excellence.

Team Leadership & Development:

• Supervise and support clinicians, including Advanced Clinical Practitioners, nurses, paramedics, and GPs.
• Lead regular clinical meetings, debriefs, and staff development activities.
• Identify training needs and support CPD, induction, and revalidation processes.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

• Registered healthcare professional (e.g., NMC, HCPC, GMC).
• Advanced Clinical Practitioner qualification (master’s level or equivalent).
• Independent non-medical prescriber (mandatory).

Experience:

• Significant experience in urgent and unscheduled care across multiple settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently across OOH, CAS, and UTC environments.

Skills & Attributes:

• Strong leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple services.
• In-depth understanding of urgent care models, NHS 111/CAS systems, and patient flow.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and service development.

Expectations of the Role:

• The postholder is expected to work across all urgent care services listed, including OOH clinics, telephone triage, CAS consultations, home visits, and UTCs.
• Must be able to both lead and actively work clinically within these environments.
• The role requires strong operational awareness and practical leadership to manage staffing, support service delivery, and uphold clinical governance across all sites.
• Flexible working patterns including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays are required.
• The postholder will be a visible, supportive leader who ensures day-to-day clinical performance, safety, and service continuity.
