We are a busy GP surgery looking for a Minor Illness Practitioner to join our team. We currently provide care to over 16,000 patients in Bicester and surrounding areas, as the town grows, so do we. Our Minor Illness team are an integral part of the practice providing urgent, on the day care for our patients.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a GP or other clinical setting with the qualifications, experience and aptitude to work within a primary care team of GPs and Allied Healthcare Professionals and may come from a range of backgrounds from paramedic, pharmacy or ANP. Alongside GPs, our clinical team includes Paramedics, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Mental Health Workers, a Bicester wide frailty team, Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.

This is an ARRS funded role and the successful candidate will need to be a prescriber and meet specific criteria as either an FCP or ACP.

Core Responsibilities:

• Assessing and triaging patients, including same day triage both on the telephone and face to face
• Providing treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or making necessary referrals
• Managing undifferentiated undiagnosed conditions
• Identifying red flags, underlying serious pathology and taking appropriate action
• Using complex decision making to inform diagnosis, investigation, and complete management of care within the broad scope of practice
• Working as part of our multi-disciplinary team
• Completing relevant training
• Advising patients on general healthcare and promoting self-management

The successful candidate must be able to:

Perform investigatory procedures as required; Interpret ECGs; Advise GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks; Ensure information is recorded accurately and in a timely way on patient records; Maintain equipment in accordance with infection control best practice; Communicate effectively with patients and where appropriate, family members and carers, complex and sensitive information regarding their physical health needs, results and treatment choices.

We are looking for 21 hours each week, ideally Monday, Tuesday and Friday, although there may be some flexibility.

Relevant qualifications are required, as determined by the ARRS criteria.

In house training will be provided for the right candidate who will:

Pay is dependent on experience. There is no weekend working, a generous pension scheme and five weeks paid holiday in addition to Bank Holidays.
