Full job description
We are delighted to offer this opportunity for an aspiring psychologist with Graduate Basis for Registration to work as an Assistant Psychologist (Band 4) within the multidisciplinary Specialist Adult Team, part of the local Eastbourne Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. We provide specialist treatment and care for members of the community with significant mental health needs and work closely with colleagues in primary care and community organisations to help people get the mental health support they need, when they need it. We have a good record of developing Assistant Psychologists, so that they have gone onto gain places for Clinical Psychology Training
Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, you will deliver psychologically informed interventions such as behavioural activation, graded exposure, trauma stabilisation, voices clinic and emotion regulation in both individual and group settings. You will support psychological assessment and MDT formulation by collating information from the Electronic Patient Record and attending meetings and appointments alongside a psychological professional. There will be opportunities to learn skills in psychometric testing and cognitive assessment. You will also support the team with clinically related administration, database maintenance, collation of outcomes measures, teaching, evaluation, audit and project work.
We are looking for someone with a passion for working as part of a multidisciplinary team with people with severe and enduring mental illness, their families and carers, to support recovery. Prior experience of working within Adult Mental Health is needed. The successful applicant will have an ability to assimilate complex information and use analytical thinking to apply psychological perspectives. They will be well organised and have an ability to work independently.. They will communicate effectively in both written and oral formats. They will have an ability to maintain composure, professional boundaries and to use supervision appropriately. They will have good audit and evaluation skills, excellent IT skills and be proficient in Excel and Powerpoint.
The successful applicant will join a friendly, highly skilled and enthusiastic community of applied Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Clinical Psychology Trainees and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners. We place a high value on staff wellbeing and you will receive regular supervision and continuing professional development opportunities. We have close links with the Doctoral Clinical Psychology training programme at the Salomons, University of Canterbury. This makes for a varied and exciting post and there are good opportunities for learning and development.
