Full job description

By the time young people reach 16–24, some may have struggled to access mainstream education or may need additional support to find their direction. This is an opportunity to help them build confidence, develop practical skills and take their next steps towards education, training or employment.

This permanent, full-time role offers a salary of £23,000–£27,000 per year (depending on experience), based in Northampton town centre, with some travel required across West Northamptonshire. Business mileage and expenses are paid.

As a Job Coach, you will work closely with young people on an individual and small-group basis, helping them prepare for the world of work and supporting them throughout work placements. You will also build relationships with local employers and education professionals to ensure each young person receives the right support to progress.

Your work will include:
  • Helping young people identify suitable work experience and employment opportunities.
  • Building relationships with employers and sourcing appropriate work placements.
  • Supporting young people while they are in the workplace and regularly checking in with employers.
  • Helping learners develop CVs, complete job applications and prepare for interviews.
  • Supporting young people to develop confidence, independence and practical workplace skills.
  • Delivering travel training and helping learners become more confident travelling independently.
  • Providing guidance to employers around supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Monitoring attendance and progress throughout work placements.
  • Attending reviews and working with education staff, employers and other professionals to support each learner's progression.
  • Providing practical support to help young people move towards further education, training or employment.
You will be based in Northampton town centre, although the role involves travelling across West Northamptonshire, including to work placements and employer sites. You will therefore need a full driving licence, access to a car and business insurance. Mileage and relevant expenses will be paid.

You must have:
  • Experience supporting young people in education, care, employment or another relevant setting.
  • An understanding of the social and emotional challenges that can affect young people.
  • A genuine interest in helping young people build confidence, independence and achieve their goals.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • A full driving licence, access to a vehicle and business insurance.
This could be a great opportunity for someone with experience as a Job Coach, Employment Advisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Mentor or similar, who is looking to make a real difference to young people's futures.
