Job Overview:
The Deputy Head of Pathology, Phlebotomy and Point of Care Testing (POCT) services is an operational role covering a wide range of scope within the Trust. Pathology laboratory services at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust are supplied by the Joint Venture (Synnovis) with GSTT/KCH at Blackfriars hub. The JV is a partnership owned by Guys and St Trust and KCH, with one third each. The pathology services include Diagnostic Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry, Histopathology, Toxicology, Immunology, Virology and Microbiology services.
Delivering the day-to-day provision of high quality, effective and efficient service and ensuring appropriate usage of Pathology and POCT testing in conjunction with the Head of pathology, phlebotomy and point of care testing services. Phlebotomy and point of care testing (POCT) are provided across all the major Trust sites. There are plans to increase in-house pathology testing for blood sciences to include Haematology and Clinical Biochemistry.
Responsibilities:
· Ensure all tests are performed efficiently within the assigned time and in accordance with established protocols to the required standards.
· Monitor stock levels and initiate delivery using pre-arranged standing orders against predefined minimum stock levels as defined by laboratory management
· Assist in monitoring quality standards, perform audit as directed in line with service needs.
· Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.
· Reporting results using the laboratory computer system in line with procedures authorised by the laboratory management/head of department.
Skills:
The post-holder will be required to have a Bachelor degree in appropriate Biological sciences subject and Masters Level degree in Clinical Sciences or equivalent with specialism preferably Biochemistry or Haematology and be registered with the Health and Care Professionals (HCPC) as a registered Biomedical Scientist or clinical scientist. The post holder must have professional status recognition including Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (UK) (FIBMS) and be a Chartered Scientist (CSci) professional. The post holder should hold a Masters qualification or equivalent in Management (PGDip or MBA). The post holder must have substantial post-registration experience and laboratory service management experience. Some experience of contract management experience would be desirable.
