Lead a county-wide service that transforms lives
This is an exciting opportunity to join our North Yorkshire Horizons team as our
County Wide Area Manager, leading operations across our adult alcohol and drug recovery service.
The successful candidate will be based at the North Yorkshire Horizons Hub closest to their home address, with regular travel across our other hubs to provide operational leadership, support colleagues and ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across the county.
As a dynamic and purpose-driven organisation, we recognise that our people are at the heart of everything we do.
As Area Manager, you will play a pivotal role in creating an environment where our employees and volunteers feel valued, supported and empowered to deliver lasting change.
Our charity is committed to creating meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve. As a values-driven organisation, we understand that our people are central to achieving our mission.
Within Operations, we are responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of services. By ensuring services are well coordinated, compliant and responsive to the needs of the people we support, you'll directly enhance service quality, improve outcomes for individuals and strengthen Waythrough's overall impact in transforming lives and communities.
About the role:
As County Wide Area Manager, you'll provide strategic and operational leadership across North Yorkshire Horizons, ensuring services are safe, sustainable, person-centred and consistently high performing.
Working closely with Service Managers, commissioners, partner agencies and senior leaders, you'll oversee service delivery, champion continuous improvement and ensure compliance with organisational policies and regulatory frameworks.
This is a visible leadership role that combines operational oversight with strategic thinking. You'll inspire and develop leaders, build strong relationships with stakeholders and help shape the future of recovery services across North Yorkshire.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and oversee the delivery of adult alcohol and drug recovery services across North Yorkshire.
- Provide leadership, coaching and support to Service Managers, promoting high performance, accountability and continuous development.
- Ensure services consistently deliver safe, effective and person-centred care in line with organisational policies, safeguarding responsibilities and regulatory requirements, including CQC where applicable.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, local authorities, partner organisations and key stakeholders.
- Monitor service quality, performance and contractual outcomes, using management information and data to drive continuous improvement.
- Lead service transformation, mobilisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage operational budgets, financial performance and resource planning to ensure services remain sustainable.
- Lead risk management across services, people and premises, ensuring effective governance and health and safety arrangements.
- Work closely with Governance, Quality and Compliance colleagues to prepare for inspections, audits and quality reviews.
- Support business development opportunities, contract growth and organisational priorities.
- Act as the CQC Registered Manager where required, maintaining compliance with all statutory and regulatory responsibilities.
About You:
We're looking for an experienced operational leader who is passionate about delivering outstanding services and supporting people to achieve positive outcomes.
You will have:
- Significant leadership experience within drug and alcohol services, mental health, housing, social care or a related sector.
- Experience managing multiple services or geographically dispersed teams.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, quality assurance and regulatory frameworks, including CQC.
- Experience managing operational budgets and delivering financial sustainability.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience building effective partnerships with commissioners and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use performance data to improve services.
- Excellent communication, organisational and decision-making skills.
- A resilient, collaborative and values-led leadership style.
Qualifications
Essential
- Level 5 Leadership or Management qualification (or working towards) or equivalent management experience.
Desirable
- Degree-level qualification or relevant professional qualification, such as RMN, DipSW or equivalent.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across North Yorkshire are essential for this role.
Why Join Us?
North Yorkshire Horizons is committed to supporting people to make positive and lasting changes in their lives.
As Area Manager, you'll have the opportunity to shape services, develop exceptional teams and influence the delivery of recovery support across one of the largest counties in England.
You'll join a supportive, forward-thinking organisation that values innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement, while making a genuine difference to the communities we serve.
