Full job description
Job Description
An opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker to join Angus Council's Carer Support Team on a permanent basis.
Based at Bruce House, Wellgate, Arbroath.
This job is workstyle 3 - Flexi
You will have the opportunity to benefit from our flexible and agile working practices. This means you will work from a variety of locations including working from council buildings and you can work from home to best suit your work, meetings and collaboration.
What does the role involve?
This is an opportunity to join our Carer Support Service; the post is based within the Interim Care Team with a primary focus on fostering and kinship care. The Carer Support Service covers all aspects of fostering, kinship care and adoption, and workers may be involved in assessments and other areas of work across teams when required. The work is varied, offering opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and experience across different areas of practice.
You will be involved in assessing prospective carers, providing ongoing support and supervision to carers, and helping them meet the individual needs of children and young people in their care. You will also work directly with carers, families, children and young people, alongside colleagues and partner agencies, to support care planning and promote positive outcomes.
The role includes participating in recruitment processes for foster carers and adopters, contributing to recruitment activities and information sessions with members of the public.
You will also be involved in developing and delivering training, as well as facilitating groups for carers and children. These activities generally take place during office hours and evenings, with occasional weekend work required. Training and group sessions are planned in advance, with responsibilities shared across the team.
We are looking for a Social Worker with strong assessment, communication and organisational skills, an understanding of child development and relevant legislation, and the ability to build positive working relationships with carers, families and professionals, underpinned by non-judgemental and anti-oppressive practice.
You should be able to manage competing demands, work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate a flexible approach to your work.
Previous experience in fostering, kinship care or adoption would be beneficial but is not essential. We welcome applications from Social Workers with transferable skills and an interest in developing their knowledge and experience.
Experience of delivering training or facilitating groups is not required, as opportunities for shadowing and co-delivering sessions are available. However, applicants should have some confidence in working with groups and a willingness to develop their skills in this area.
What can we offer?
You will be joining a supportive and experienced team, with an experienced leadership team and opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills across different areas of family placement work.
Regular supervision and opportunities for reflective practice are available, including individual supervision, peer group reflective practice sessions and group sessions facilitated by a Clinical Psychologist.
Ongoing professional development is encouraged and supported, and individual interests and areas for development are promoted wherever possible.
In 2024, Angus Council's Fostering and Adoption Services underwent a full short-notice inspection by the Care Inspectorate, with both services receiving a grade of 5 (Very Good).
If you are interested in joining our service and would like to find out more about the role, please contact Danielle Chapman on ChapmanD@angus.gov.uk.
Please note interviews will be held Wednesday, 18 November 2026.
Requirements
You must have the ability to become a member of the PVG Scheme.
Please refer to job outline and person specification for further details and requirements for this job.
