Full job description

The Bodyline Clinical Research is a rapidly growing UK clinical research organisation specialising in obesity, diabetes, metabolic disorders, women's health and other therapeutic areas. With multiple research sites across the UK and a large patient database, we are committed to delivering high-quality clinical trials while providing exceptional patient care.

As part of our continued growth and commitment to innovation, accessibility and improved health outcomes across the UK, Bodyline has expanded through a dedicated Clinical Research Trial Services and is recruiting an Associate Medical Director/Principal Investigator.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Principal Investigator seeking progression into a Medical Director pathway. The role combines approximately:

  • 50% Principal Investigator responsibilities
  • 50% Associate Medical Director responsibilities

As the successful candidate you will continue to lead and oversee clinical trials while contributing strategically to medical leadership, investigator oversight, study feasibility, quality, compliance and business growth.

This position offers a clear development pathway towards a future Medical Director role.

Key Responsibilities

Principal Investigator Responsibilities (50%)

  • Serve as Principal Investigator across Phase II-IV clinical trials.
  • Ensure participant safety, wellbeing and rights are protected at all times.
  • Maintain oversight of protocol compliance and GCP requirements.
  • Review and assess participant eligibility.
  • Conduct informed consent discussions and medical assessments.
  • Lead study-related patient visits and medical decision-making.
  • Review and assess safety events, adverse events and serious adverse events.
  • Support recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Participate in sponsor, CRO and regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Maintain oversight of delegated study staff and study conduct.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of study documentation.

Associate Medical Director Responsibilities (50%)

  • Provide medical leadership across all Bodyline research sites.
  • Support the Clinical Director in strategic development and growth of the research portfolio.
  • Review feasibility opportunities and provide medical input into study selection.
  • Support investigator development, mentoring and training.
  • Contribute to SOP development and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support medical governance and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Participate in sponsor and CRO meetings to represent Bodyline's medical capabilities.
  • Assist with site expansion, service development and operational planning.
  • Support business development activities and scientific presentations.
  • Act as deputy to the Clinical Director when required.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • GMC registered physician with licence to practise.
  • Significant experience as a Principal Investigator in clinical research.
  • Strong knowledge of ICH-GCP and UK clinical research regulations.
  • Experience conducting Phase II-IV clinical trials.
  • Excellent understanding of participant safety and medical oversight requirements.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple research sites.

Desirable

  • Previous experience managing obesity, diabetes or metabolic disease studies.
  • Experience in women's health clinical trials.
  • Previous medical leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting business development and feasibility activities.
  • Experience with MHRA and sponsor inspections.
