This role is predominantly associated with assisting the Engineering team in completing duties directly related to issues in the field. Your role will be split between site and office work and will provide you with varied day-to-day duties and responsibilities.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Project Engineering team in reporting to the client.
• Assisting the team with key projects issues as directed by the Line Manager.
• Assist the Project Engineering team in the management of consultants and contractors.
• Site inspections with the Engineering team and adopting authority.
• Seeking ations from Sub-Contractors.
• Cost analysis / Tender evaluation of Sub-contractors.
• Works under close supervision to achieve time, cost & quality in all assignments.
• Liaising and Managing Sub-contractors to complete works.
• Liaisons with various Local Authorities / Chasing Adoption Certification from Local Authorities.
• On-site supervision of Stage 3 site works.
• Flexible where possible in role & team contribution.

Person Requirements:

• Math’s & English GCSE Grade 4 or above (preferably).

Civil Engineering Technician Apprentice

Working Pattern: 40hrs per week – Monday to Friday *

Are you looking for a role that can give you a head start to your career within the construction and highways industry?

Via currently have fantastic opportunities to join our Construction Team as a Civil Engineering Apprentice based at our Bilsthorpe depot in Nottinghamshire.

You’ll gain insight into the efficient ordering, control and utilisation of materials, plant equipment, transport and subcontracted works. You’ll learn how to interpret complex specifications, drawings, surveying, contracts and instructions associated with works and projects.

You’ll gain first-rate training and mentoring along with workplace experience and the formal qualifications to back it up! Throughout the training period you will gain your Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician Apprenticeship through one of our carefully selected partner training providers. What’s more, all of our apprentices are recruited on to a permanent contract from day one, so once you’re finished training, you’ll transition to a role within our Construction Team. There will also be the opportunity to progress on to further study such as a HNC as well as gaining additional nationally recognised industry qualifications eg: New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) training.



Within your role you will support the Contract Agent and Contract Manager managing small teams of operational staff and sub-contractors engaged on highway and civil engineering construction and maintenance projects to ensure they are delivered on time and to cost. You’ll gain insight into the efficient ordering, control and utilisation of materials, plant equipment, transport and subcontracted works. You’ll learn how to interpret complex specifications, drawings, surveying, contracts and instructions associated with works and projects.

Civil engineering technicians support in the design, creation and connecting up of the world around us, making the villages, towns and cities work for the people that live in them, and are playing an ever increasing role in safeguarding and improving the environment into our future.

They will use and apply engineering principles and techniques, carry out calculations and data analysis, prepare and produce sketches, diagrams, and models, to support technical problem solving and in the delivery of civil engineering designs and technical solutions. They use a range of tools and techniques, including digital techniques (such as CAD or BIM) to aid the visualisation, communication, measurement and assessment of civil engineering projects.

In their daily work, employees interact with their line manager, typically a senior civil engineer or site manager, to confirm programmes of work and agree individual responsibilities, which in turn support the delivery of wider plans across civil engineering teams; these teams could include engineers across a range of disciplines, from various employer types (e.g. clients, consultancies, contractors), and project managers, where their collective outputs will be used to produce civil engineering solutions that are fit for purpose, safe, secure, environmentally sustainable, and meet customer and industry specifications.

Civil engineering technicians, depending on their employer, will spend their time in an office environment, working on site, working remotely or a combination of these. There is also potential for visiting customers or suppliers.

Employees are responsible for assisting in the delivery of accurate and quality civil engineering solutions, ensuring they are within agreed time and resource limits, compliant with industry and regulatory standards, such as the Common Safety Method (CSM), and to specification. Civil engineering technicians must also comply with health and safety regulations, welfare, well being, and environmental and sustainability policies. They will typically report to an engineer or project manager, normally as part of a cross functional team, the size of this team and responsibilities varying with the scope of the project and size of the employer.

Technicians are able to use their own judgement when undertaking the occupational duties and applying their technical knowledge, skills and behaviours in a range of contexts and environments. They also have a responsibility to plan and organise their own work and contribute to the management of projects using a variety of business processes, procedures, and methods of working. They are also responsible for their own continuing professional development and recognising their own obligations to society.

Typical Working Week

You will work on site for four days per week and attend college for one day a week. Most site hours are Monday to Friday, 08.00-17.00.

Career Progression

Upon completion, the learner will be qualified as a Civil Engineer

Key Training/College Information

K10 will enrol and fund your qualifications through a SFA funded training provider. It is likely to take 36 months to complete this apprenticeship, depending on current qualifications and experience.

Qualifications/Required

• Apprenticeship candidates will typically have at least 5 GCSEs at Grades A-C / 9-4 including Maths, English and Science or their equivalent.
• Already completed technical certificates in Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering or a similarly Engineering qualification
• Must have access to a car to drive to different locations

Desirable

The passion and commitment to become a fully qualified civil engineering technician. Have previous related work experience, CSCS, but this is certainly not essential.
